so jpmorgan is hosting a training workshop about wall street at my school, and the description of the workshop states that it "it is intended to provide a solid foundation of practical valuation methodologies that is an essential foundation before investment banking interviews and internships." You have to send a resume and cover letter to get selected, and the preference is given to sophomores and juniors. I applied for the heck of it, and got in. I should mention that I am a freshman and have very little economics or business knowledge. My career centre is telling me that this workshop will be viewed as a recruting ground for jpmorgan interns, but I am not sure whether to believe them. I mean its just a one day workshop. is this workshop really a big deal? if so, how can i make a good impression?

The fact that you had to get SELECTED in order to attend a workshop seems to be a big deal. If you're really up for it, I recommend going to it. I wouldn't doubt your career center either. It would also look good on a resume as well, especially as a freshman. In terms of ibanking, they could give you an edge over others. Even if it is 1 single day, the fact you got some exposure to it shows that you truly care.

In order to prepare, I would contact the career center and ask them if this workshop has ever been hosted. If so, ask them for specifics. What occurs, what you should wear, and the atmosphere. Research JPMorgan and figure out some small things about them so if you have some free time to talk to a rep, make it sound like you care about the company. It's all about contacts. Ask for a reps card as well...or a few. Whoever seems approachable at the workshop will be also approachable later on in the future.
