IDK about JUB, but NYU-AD came to my school in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
It’s one of the most prestigious privately funded schools [talking about my school :p]
Now with that said, NYU-AD has some pretty hardcore advertising [idk about the royal Qatari family affiliation]
1)Sassy Blonde Male Recruiter
2)Liberal Arts Major
3]Foreign Accent

They are also opening a new branch in China in 2013, i think ?
Yes they’re VERY GENEROUS with financial aid, as opposed to NYU
as of 2011, they have 130students enrolled in NYU-AD.
The requirements to get in are insanity to say the least
I’m not attacking the college or anything, by telling a whole school of prospective seniors that a SAT Score of 2100 (700+ in each section) is an “OK Score” is blasphemy.
He even had the nerve to tell us that they’ve rejected plenty of Full Scorers (2400), because they don’t want robots, but unique individuals who can contribute something to the University!

Now If I somehow by my some miracle I obtained those scores, I would be applying to Harvard, Columbia University or IDK MIT ? Why go to the ONE of the best, when you go THE BEST university ? With Scores like that, Money would be THE LAST of my worries :|

*Note that all of this information was taken from the lecture that was given by NYU-AD at my school.

I know nothing about their engineering program.
The answer to your second question regarding the financial aid is that, if you get admitted to NYUAD, money will be no problem. The school is very heavily subsidized by the royal family and practices need-blind admissions and meets 100% of the demonstrated financial need. In fact, in most cases it will give out more money than you would imagine, sometimes including even some for personal expenses.

I am not sure that JUB is as generous.

And yes location should be a MAJOR factor. You will not just study at some place. You will live there for 4 years…UAE and Germany are very (!) different.

Location is a major factor. You will not really be in only one place. NYUAD comes with two semesters abroad and two January terms abroad. And in addition to that many courses include study trips to other parts of the world and you can apply for internships elsewhere. So far for my S this meant two trips to India, visits to Katmandu, Jordan and Turkey. He spent the summer of 2011 on a project in NY, paid for, and is currently in Shanghai. I do not know anything about JUB - but I doubt the students will get as much international experience.

Okay, to put things straight. I am a freshman at Jacobs University and I just quickly skimmed thru whatever you guys have written. Let me clear some things for you.

Academics: Some majors aren’t as good as others. But I can tell you for sure that ALL courses that fall in the school of engineering and sciences are awesome (I am sure you can guess what my major is ). Some students are really, really good. And one can only wonder why didn’t they put in more effort and went to an awesome uni in the states instead. Dozens of people here had participated in the international olympiads. But then again, there are students who just…well… to put in it in a decent way… dont have the mental capacity to compete with the rest. This is where you guys come in. The environment is extremely competitive and its just not suitable for anyone who struggled in his high-school. For example, I know two freshies, who have struggled so much that they didn’t any finals and failed all the courses. And I know many freshies who are changing their major next semester. Thats why I want all of you to apply :)

Faculty: Agreed. Its not top-notch. Apart from a few professors, I think its good enough. And then, we have well-known professors like Michael Kohlhase who used to teach at Carnegie Mellon. Overall, its okay-ish. But then, I am not quite exposed to most teachers yet.

Lifestyle: Squeezing a four year course-load into three years means that you never have enough time for anything. Parties mostly suck. But hey, its Europe. You can easily travel when you have time (usually during intersession). There are lots of places to see. Trust me on this.

Graduating from here: A good friend of mine just got an internship with Microsoft. I came to know about a bunch of people who are now doing PhDs from excellents universities abroad (Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, MIT…) So, its good in that department. But you have to be really good yourself too.

SAT scores: Yes. There are people here who didn’t fare well in SATs. I think Jacobs just ignores the SAT scores :P. But then again, are SATs scores a good indicators of a student’s potential? Question.
