Julliard Waitlist Chances?

My very dear friend was wait-listed at Julliard this morning. Anyone have any experience with this, or perhaps know how likely it will be for an acceptance?? I mean really, who says no to Julliard??

Actually there is a student in my son’s BFA class at USC that did last year and I also know there is a student at Minnesota/Guthrie who, a couple of years back, also turned down his spot  Huge congrats to your friend - that is incredible!!!

Three years ago my S was wait listed at Juilliard. He was told right off that there was very little chance of movement off that list. . .but the admissions office kept in close contact with him as students accepted their offers and the staff was supportive, interested in his other choices, and encouraging. He did not get in, and I believe the final class was solid fairly early.

One of my daughters was accepted to Juilliard from the wait list in a different major last year. The admission staff was very supportive and friendly throughout the wait period.

No advice on this thread but I just HAD to reply to glassharmonica. Don’t know if you have ever heard of it but there is a wonderful book called The Glass Harmonica by Louise Marley.
Check it out!

Thanks for the tip, digitalmom. I’ll check it out! :)

Thanks everyone! His biggest challenge is that he has been accepted to both Purchase and Rutgers… So he does have amazing choices, but Julliard is a "must go: school for him. I am just worried that he will decide on one of the other schools, make a commitment, then have to back down. Is it unrealistic to think that he could hear as late as the summer?

I can’t recall exactly, but I think the Juilliard class was complete fairly early, and I think it was before May 1st. At any rate, you have to commit somewhere by May 1st, and if after that you get the better offer, I think you must switch, leaving behind whatever deposits you have made. It can get awkward, I suppose!

We lost a $600 deposit last year (my daughter found out on April 30, but we had already made a deposit at another college.) I suggest that your son call the admissions director and talk to her-- she will explain the wait list process thoroughly. Good luck to him-- he has great choices!

Thank you all for the replies! After the callback weekend, I think his heart is set on Julliard… Does anyone know how the programs at Purchase and Rutgers compare… or do I need to start a new thread? :)

Just thought I would brag a little… My friend found out Monday that he has been accepted to Julliard! Off the waitlist and into his ideal program. Thanks all for the support :)

Congratulations!!!
