my scores are still not in
there is so much rage in my heart

fight them.

lol (10 char)

I got my scores today, but I am going to have them hand-scored because I only got a 27 in English and 24 in Reading. My pencils got dull pretty easily, and some of my bubbles were only 1/4 or 1/2 filled. I got a 25 in math, and I don't even want to mention science.

Wish me luck!
<3

Should I have mine hand-scored? I really thought I did way better in English and especially reading. Like I said, my marks were pretty light and some of my bubbles were not completely filled. Maybe I just suck. Who knows?
<3

I just saw my scores. I prefer the SAT; ACT has a tough curve. It was the first time I took the test and the timing killed me. I don't know if I'll take it again; it all depends on what I get on the June SAT. I can't wait until Monday to find out.

what does (10 char) mean??!

you have to enter at least 10 characters to post a message. (10 char) means they're using "(10 char)" to add enough letters to it so that they can post...

I got an essay score of 10 even though I thought my essay was pretty disorganized becuase halfway through the essay I thought of some more ideas and tried to fit those in! They dont grade those essays harshly I guess or maybe I'm just too hard on myself..

They do, but the theory is that the ACT essay graders care more about quantity than anything else. How many pages long was your essay?

2.5 pages ( 10char)

Ok so from what i've seen
if you write one page and a half or less the most you get is an 8

2.0 pages is around a nine

2.5pages gets you about a 10

3+ pages gets you an 11 or twelve

Got my act scores:

Composite: 27

looks like I will be retaking

will colleges look at the percentiles? a 27 is in the 90%

if you are judging a score by how much someone writes, you're messed up

some theories I think are overly analyzed and flat out stupid.. IMO this is one of them. there is no point for choosing people to read your essay if they only gotta check how long you wrote to give out a score, especially when people's handwriting have different sizes.

So I went from a 25 ---> 29

But I still have to take it again b/c I didn't take the writing.

"English - 35
Math - 35
Reading - 34
Science - 33

Composite - 34

I'm stoked man; I didn't study at all. I also felt Reading was impossible and I had a nosebleed during Science so I left with 5-6 minutes left. I'm glad I don't have to take this crap over again."

^ No way. You scored a 34 on reading and thought it was impossible?

The easiest sections I think are as follows: English, Math, Science, Reading. I hate reading which brings my composite down.

excel--it depends on what schools you are looking at. some schools use the percentage, others have internal guidelines. If you are looking at Ivy I suggest retaking after prepping. If top 20 you need to get the score to 29 plus or have a hook. Even if you have great gpa, great standardized scores, great essays, great ECs, and great recs, the admit game is crazy (witness last year) and will be crazy again this year due to population trends. Make sure you apply to a wide range of schools as there is simply no guarantee due to the "community building" trend in admissions.

Is 29 itself a good score for top 20?

jai--
if you look at the common data sets available for most of the top 20 you will see the range of those attending is usually 29 and above--which means you are somewhat in their scale, not overwhelming but you are there. So just based on the standardized tests, that's acceptable in their range. You'll need to work on the other stuff and make sure that they make you stand out and get noticed. I know many students who've made it into the top 20 with less than 29 based on the other factors: essays, recs, ecs, gpa. It's really important in this community building concept that you contribute an interesting element to the school. I know one kid this past year with a 34, strong gpa 3.5 out of 4, varsity team captain, multiple sports who got rejected from every school other than the state university. He probably applied too late after they'd reached the quota for bright well rounded kids and don't kid yourself, it happens. Can you play bagpipes? Sing at funerals? Star in commercials? Think unusual and get noticed--it helps

THE admissions game is random. They want people who have passion. I think that the ACT/SAT is just one of the things they use to access this.

They know when they have a nerd applying.

And they know when people get lucky of the standardized tests.
