To reply to Bicyclekick: If you're only looking at colleges that require two subject tests, then the answer is No. They'll ignore your third score and only look at your top two scores. Hope that helps.

humperdinky: that does help, thanks :)

i did well on US History, 790, ok on chem 650, and horrible on math 2, 570, and i really don't want that to be considered by colleges

Math II: 800 :) I was aiming for mid-700s.
Lit: 710, meh. It's about what I figured... now I need to decide if I want to retake it.

US History: 800!!!! I hoped for an 800 and new it was possible (my practice tests were all in the high seven hundreds), but I'm still completely happy and amazed!

Lit: 750! When you consider that my practice tests were in the high six hundreds, you'll see why i was totally amazed.

Very good test day for me!

Ok so i got a 610 in french but i only studied for it the day before my exam so its not too bad conisdering....but are sat 2 scores important enough to retake?? Anyone with previous experience of this?? Thanks

Prediction
Math 2: 770
US History: 790

Actual
Math 2: 800
US History: 770

for the ivies, i would retake if you know you can do better. but if you have 3 other 750+ , maybe just 700+ for lower ivies, then there is absolutely no reason to retake, they really only consider your 2 or 3 best scores.

Anything above a 600 wont necessarily hurt you, it just wont help you at all. Keep in mind you can't tell the college "but i only studied for it the day before my exam". with the ivies, anything that can set you apart is important and you never regret getting a better score even if it takes some work.

And PS people who retake over 750 are well, crazy. This coming from someone who got 780 bio m as a freshman and 800 chem as a sophomore. I got those scores from regents classes (we only have IB, no AP, starting junior year), so self-studying can go a long way. I'm taking IB bio next year but no reason to retake for 20 measly points.

Bottom line if you know its not your best, you don't have 3 others sat subject tests to bump it out, and you're willing to do a little more work for your dream school: retake. With tests like USH, WH, chem, bio, and physics i would replace rather than retake as these are tests youve taken after youve finished the course, with a retake the material will not be as fresh in your mind. With math, literature, and the languages you will become more knowledgeable the longer you study it.

770 Eng Lit
800 Us History

:)
