June 2009 testers!

Carbon, I would say that is somewhat true, but somewhat false. The way to study the Reading and Science sections is basically just: taking the practice tests, getting familiar with the sections, and understanding what the ACT likes to test you on. Time management is a big thing. A great way to improve that is to practice!

I’m really nervous…will it hurt me if I score lower than I did in April? I got a 33 composite, which I’m happy with (but a 34 would be way cool), but my essay was an 8, which I wasn’t happy with at all.

For most colleges I’m pretty sure they only look at your highest ACT score.

Thanks! Yeah, I know a lot of them consider the highest composite. But I still feel like if admissions officers saw a lower score, they would be tempted to question the test taker’s ability, even if he or she had earned a higher score earlier. I don’t know if that makes sense.

Another question- I know that a lot of people here say that the ACT writing score doesn’t really matter in the admissions process because it is such a terrible measure of writing and colleges have plenty of other ways to assess an applicant’s writing ability, and I agree that the writing section is pretty useless, but if it truly doesn’t matter much, then why do so many colleges specifically request that students take the ACT with writing if they opt to take the ACT instead of the SAT?

June 09 right here. It’ll be my first ACT.

My goal is to earn anything with a 3 on the far left. 30, 31, 32, I don’t care.

Anyone else using Aderall to improve concentration?

Got a 27 the last time I took it (Feb of Sophomore Year). Aiming for at least a 31 this time (the end of junior year).

Question: You can choose scores from different test dates to send to schools, right? I’m talking about superscoring, by the way(Here’s a site that explains it a bit: [Colleges that super score ACT : College Admissions Counseling](Colleges that superscore the ACT - BS/MD Admissions by College Admissions Partners)). I took one when I was in my freshman year just to see how I would do (not well since I was absolutely not prepared for it). I can choose not to send that and send the two took sophomore and junior year, for instance, right?

Wow, I feel incredibly stupid for saying this…but I’m just hoping for 24 at least! It will be my first time taking the real thing. I’ve taken nurmous practice tests, averaging around 26each time, so that gives me a little confidence boost. :)

I took the ACT for the first time in April without studying much and got a 24 C (26 E, 24 M, 22 R, 22 S.) I studied almost every day for the past month and took 8 practice tests.

I want to get a 29-31 this time and I have worked my scores up to 32 E, 31 M, 28 R, 26 S which is a 29. Hopefully it all works out tomorrow.

Holy sh-t, NavyZeal. Drugs to improve concentration? Immoral much?

I just took a practice test and am in line for 32ish, i hope i do that well

Test in less than 12 hours! Good luck everybody!

I’m not sure what to expect. My practice test scores are so inconsistent. Hoping for a 34. But a 33 would still be alright.

So the ACT doesn’t take off for wrong answers right?

that’s correct. answer everything.

I actually like the fact that SAT takes off for wrong answers.

Blind guessing should not be rewarded.

8 days, 14 hours, 30 minutes, until scores come out

That’s it?

College Board should learn from the ACT, the SAT always takes at least 19 days for the scores to come out.

^ Not to mention the College Board AP tests take two and a half months to get scored (Early May to late July.)
