Hey, can you use Periodic table on Multiple section in chemistry exam?

YES OR NO

Hey, can you use Periodic table on Multiple section in chemistry exam?

YES OR NO

yes. you get a periodic table, but no formula sheet on the mc

Come on guys! Lets Consolidate the answers into simple form!

I’ll be taking the Chemistry SAT II in October. Which book will help me most for getting an 800? I definitely need to review everything because I took Chem honors last year and got a 650, so I’ve forgotten stuff now (I did not study nearly enough that time though and did not work hard in class).

What I’ve heard:
-Princeton is best
-Princeton misses some stuff (mainly math), which can be compromised by using Kaplan with Princeton
-Barrons is best
-Barrons is a bit excessive
-Barrons tests aren’t accurate
-Barrons practice questions help

A formula sheet would be useless. It’s a much more stoichiometry/concept based test than formula/equation based. Only “formulas” I really used the other day was MaVa = MbVb on 1 problem, and m/V = M for a few problems. Like I said, any other calculation based answers are simple mole conversions or stuff like that.

@Yamster I really liked Princeton review. It had some typos, but basic chemistry knowledge will prevent you from being mislead by them. It pretty much more than covered everything that I saw on the test, with the exception of Bohr’s model of the atom. You should also use the free Sparknotes practice tests and its review. I didn’t use Barron’s or Kaplan, so I can’t comment on those.

what would you guys reccomend to compliment an honors chemistry class? PR or barrons?

^ I’d go with PR, I thought Barron’s was just too in depth and had too much unnecessary information…

So I’m finally taking this and math II tomorrow. Yeah, the test was postponed 3 weeks because of stupid **** like thunderstorms. It looks like the tests you guys took weren’t too bad, but I’ve heard the make-ups are hard. I felt quite prepared on June 5th, but now that school is over I have lost most motivation. I have reviewed my books some, just to refresh my memory. Anyone got any tips or advice on what to expect?

I just received my score and I had a question. I know that the percentiles aren’t posted up yet by collegeboard, but would 780 be at least in the 90 something percentiles? D:
After hearing about how an 800 on Math II usually equating to ~89% is making me nervous about my chem score now…

If you took the AP chem exam, then I’d say that the test is a lot less detailed than the AP test. HOWEVER, in my opinion, the True or False section was a killer for me. It wasn’t necessarily the worst thing in the world, but the T/F part was excessively detailed compared to other practice tests that I have taken.

Also, brush up on lab techniques because although they say that usually ~8% of questions are lab-based, I felt like I had A LOT of lab-based questions that I wasn’t prepared for at all. Sneaky collegeboard exam makers…

Here’s a percentile chart for the SAT subject tests. This year should be pretty much the same.

Thanks for the heads-up guys.

Oh yeah, do you think I’ll have to wait 3 weeks for my scores?

Why are there so many people getting 800/790/780 even though this test has a terrible curve? =( I got 740 and I want to know how can I raise my score.

I think the curve was actually pretty decent this time.

What’s considered a pretty good score for Chem considering it’s harder than most of the other SAT tests?

@charizarrd I’m seconding this question because I’m confused as well… I personally thought anything above 750 would be considered to be great for any of the science tests… but if we’re viewing the percentiles (<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools) I guess for chem, the upper 700s would be considered “good”?
I honestly have no idea because I only know that Math II is the one you have to REALLY do well on if you don’t want your percentiles to drop.

Those percentiles are a few years old. http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/SAT-Subject-Test-Percentile-Ranks-2009.pdf

@silverturtle Darn… Thanks for the updated link! So if I got a 780 this year, is it really worth it to retake it to aim for that 800?

Probably not.
