June 2010 Critical Reading

can we please come to a consensus for the dichotomy answer?
choices are 1) reconcile contradictory views 2) experiments concerning talent inconclusive 3) origins of talent
and can someone please expalin why apprehend=perceive? thanks :)

arwenevenstar,

Hopefully at least a 750! :)

answer is provisional. it literally means something that is temporary until being able to decide whether or not it is good/correct.

what score would you get for 3 wrong 0 omission? whats the range and whats the average? thanks!

wat was the question for devise? in SC??? i have no idea which one this was…: : (

@envymealways,

Well I remember having “seemingly” in the answer choice for that one, unless I am thinking of another question.

whats the general consensus on curve predictions?
i say it wasnt too difficult but not as easy as march for sure so

-1 800
-2 800
-3 800
-4 780
-5 760
-6 750
-7 730
-8 720
-9 710
-10 700

@envymealways,

Probably 780.

Haha hoping for that otherwise it means I did worse than my first time :frowning:
@envy
for apprehend I was looking at record and perceive but decided record might mean literally to record - percieve is just like the person being driven is taking in and understanding the landscape
I don’t rembrt 2 being an answr choice tho… And I def didn’t pick 1 or 3

One of the questions had choices of consideration and explanation. It was consideration, right?

What, provisional?? :(((((((

@jollybjolly: Ouch. Hopefully, I didn’t get that many wrong. That was simple a worse comes to worse estimate. If the SAT is graded differently (assuming it was harder than previous versions), could that potentially bump up the scores?

Rachel Carson story
Marking a watershed moment in public

^ does anyone remember the exact question and the other answer choices?

Was it really harder? And will 2 or 3 wrong actually be an 800? I always thought an 800 was no wrong on any test ( at least any sat I )

what would a 53 raw score be?

jlewis. im predicting 53 raw to be between 640-660

Okay, for the provisional/empirical issue:

The sentence competition was worded along the lines of, “A theory of the universe is ________, as it cannot be proven, but can be disproven and replaced by another theory.”

If such a theory were indeed “empirical,” one would be able to prove it is true, without doubt, through scientific evidence. Nevertheless, since this theory can be replaced, so it is provisional.

Are the vocabs here the ones NOT on the experimental sections…?

Yeah I got provisional there…

I didn’t feel so bad about the test this time around. The vocab regarding a few questions was iffy but I checked when I got home and my guesses were spot on for a few of them that I remember, but 1 or 2 I can’t recall.

“Argentinian author and author reading stories aloud
Recount unusual experience –> new understanding”

I barely recall these two questions. Can someone perhaps if they remember give more information about what the questions asked or other answer choices in it?
