June 2010: Math II

Is anyone else freakin out about this? I only started studying yesterday and I haven’t even started studying for bio either so ■■■

@ConstanceB – no derivatives are on the test; the material covered extends to precalculus but doesn’t go beyond that. You do have to know basic limits though.

Does anyone else have a problem with Sparknotes test 4? I got a 780 if I calculated it myself, but the score gauge is still at zero o_O And I can’t click on the detailed review… only the test + answers It also has random red marks on the answers I didn’t choose… this is weird

I’ve noticed that spark notes makes a lot of mistakes in their grading

usually the last couple tests on sparknotes are all screwed up. i know this happened for math 1 and 2. i also remember us history the last 3 tests were repeats of the first 3.

I really, really want an 800 on this test, but I’m freaking out. I’m a freshmen in pre-calculus.

Does anyone have any cramming strategies for me? The test is in two days - YIKES! I’ve taken 6 REA Practice tests (always in 740 - 780 range, last one was an 800), 2 15 Realistic Tests For the SAT Math II (600, 580… holy ****…) 1 McGraw-Hills (800, missed only 2 and they were both stupid mistakes), 2 Kaplan (800, 740), 2 CB (690 (??) 800) and 5 Barron’s (highest score there was a 740). I have all of the above books as well as Sparknotes. Should I take any more tests, and if so, which?

I am seriously freaking out. I need an 800. I have no idea which book reflects the test in terms of difficulty the most accurately. It seems Princeton Review does, but I got a 740/740 on those.

cherry, calm down. Barrons practice tests are extremely difficult. In my opinion, I felt that the princeton review tests were a little bit more difficult that the collegeboard tests. So you shouldn’t worry.

Okay. takes a breather I want to guarantee an 800 though. With the little time that I have left (the rest of today, tomorrow evening) what should I do? As a freshmen, I am exceptionally ignorant of the best test preparation methods. I would genuinely appreciate any advice on how I should study… (And then I can start studying and get off the computer…)

Although Calculus is not technically on the Math II test, I think the way Calculus makes one think about math would greatly benefit a student for Math II. Also, for the max/min problems, you can just use the derivative to do those in about 2 seconds.

is it just me or is Princeton Review’s cracking the SAT math 1 & 2 subject tests much more difficult than the actual math level IIC test???

Is the real test really easier than sparknotes? I just recently took a Sparknotes test and got a 790. It was fairly simple, I was just making stupid mistakes left and right. I’m finding it too good to be true that the real test is even easier than sparknotes.

i am also wondering about sparknotes and PR… which tests are more accurate?

quick question, does anyone know whether foci come up at all in the test?

quick question cherry…why are you so freaked out for sat subject tests when you are a freshman? hahaha didn’t even know subject tests existed till this year! relax! they dont even count towards your college admissions so…

I’ve read you can miss around 5 problems and still get an 800. However I would think ones percentile rank with a 800 (missing no questions) would be significantly higher than someone who got the same score missing 5 questions. So is this distinction made, and if so do colleges see it?

No, I got an 800 and it says 89th percentile on mine, and everyone I know who got an 800 got that same percentile as well.

I am studying out of Barron’s and was completely obliterated (like sub 600, I was pretty upset) but took a practice test out of the college board book and got 780 (up about 250 points) so I think that Barron’s is overly difficult.

To get into a tier one school what sort of scores should I be shooting for?

Can someone please explain the following in detail?

Standard Deviation (mainly the formula)
Linear Regression
Conics - foci & eccentricity

I’m taking the subject test math II and physics tml. I’ve been using PR for both subjects (not so much for maths cos I’ve alr been taught most of what’s being tested). I strongly recommend PR physics, it’s really clear in its explanations of concepts and it helped me a lot. I’ve never been strong in Physics, but it’s the only other subject I am able to take, since I am not studying any of the others. AND I had been really busy due to school for the past few months, so I had only a week to cram math II and physics (which is this week), so I’m really grateful to PR cos it is able to simplify topics and clearly state the main points. I’ve been getting around 780-790 for PR Math II and 750-770 for PR Physics. So…tml, hopefully I can finish the whole paper and get 800 for both…prays hard

o my god u guys, i am freakin out.
i’ve been studying out of the barrons book, and got a 670 on the diagnostic, then 620 on the first practice test in the back of the book (after some studying), and then 610 on the 2nd practice test (after a loooottt of studying).
***FF?? im aiming for a low 700, do u think thats even possible? omg i hate this stupid test
