June 2012 SAT 2 French

Did anyone else take it? Thoughts?

Nobody…? Lolfail

:(

Lol I took it and thought it was kind of different from princeton review’s practice tests. The grammar section focused a lot on present participle (there were at least 3 blanks for it). The vocabulary was OK with a few guesses. Part C with the fill-in-the blanks for short passages were definitely the hardest (especially the first one …)

I thought it was definitely hard. Took it last year, earned a horrible score. I really studied, took different practice tests (CB and PR), still only got mid-600s. But from today’s test…I didn’t even score that high.

I want to crawl into a hole and never see light again.

Curve predictions?

It was so much more difficult than the practice tests in Barron’s, PR, AND Official Guide.
I’ve been getting 730-780 on practice tests, but I think I bombed this one.
Let’s hope the curve will be fair!

I agree it was quite different from PR’s tests, which focused more on “subjonctif,” whereas like joshroz said, this one had a lot of present participle questions.

yeah I was to a degree disappointed with the grammar section because it barely tested anything (it seems shorter than usual as well - only around 12 questions or so??) and there were barely any verb tense questions. this test had way too much vocabulary-type questions.
For them one about the train (part C), I chose plate-forme for the first one and the last one I just randomly chose “n’avaient jamais de ■■■■■■”
I have no idea what that phrase meant.
What did you guys choose for the last question in Part A, about "Ma ____ favorite (I think) est la salle de s

I know right? I barely studied vocab!

For the fill-in-the-blank in which the person a dû _______ to wake the boss up?

I thought the dû wasn’t supposed to have a chapeau, because dû means “owed”
“du” means had to. Was it a mistake? What do you guys think?

I put toussoter (slight cough). What did you put?

dû is the past participle of devoir, which means to must. In this context it means he had to ____ to get his boss’s attention so I don’t think it’s a mistake
yes i guessed that too because tousser i knew means to cough so its sort of similar … it’s a complete guess though since I didn’t know what the other two choices even meant

I chose quai for the train (part C) but I know it’s wrong
I also chose “N’avaient jamais de ■■■■■■” only because of le negation.

For the last question in part A, it was place, because chambre can only apply to bedroom. I also chose bondissent only because horses jump/leap too :P

Le quai is correct, isn’t it? Wasn’t the passage about a girl waiting in le gare?
Also, bondir is correct for horses.
The room is ‘la piece’ - that’s the word for any other room besides the bedroom, which is ‘la chambre’.

yeah I think skylimits is right. It is
le quai
and
la chambre

how were the reading sections for you guys?

No, I meant ‘la chambre’ is incorrect. The sentence said something like ‘my favorite room is the salon’ - and room was the word you needed to choose. ‘La chambre’ doesn’t work in context because chambre applies to a bedroom. The correct word is 'la pi

oh I meant to say ``la pi

And reading was okay, right? The only one I was confused about was why the Francoeur guy liked the Volkswagen Beetle so much…because it wa inexpensive or because it was in the perfect state?

I think it
s inexpensive. 1500 euros isn
t a lot of money and there
s no indication of the car being new plus it talked about how the car was manufactured from a while ago and it emphasized on how they
re old in fashion
where are you from skylimits? your vocab backing is really extensive xD

plus why else would you buy an unfashionable car unless it’s cheap? I don’t think it’s realistic for it to be in perfect condition
was the location of the car pr

Really? I put 'parfait

Yup, the narrator said the car was parked right outside his house
The person who put the ad in the newspaper was inconnu, was he not?

yeah, that makes sense … I’m not sure now xD
what was the answer for the blank in part C about how the trees were mostly covering the view to the house and how the snow covered the house, and the house seems to be what? (all the adjectives started with e) I ended up choosing endormie :/
