***June 2014 SAT (US ONLY)***

For the writing section anyone remember the question that went something like the songs of humpback whales are more beautiful than (insert other whale here) and you had to identify the error? What was the answer

@Juggerz The error was that it was comparing the song of a species of humpback whales to another group of humpback whales themselves. In other words, it was an illogical and erroneous comparison.

Its like I’m addicted to this thread … i keep checking it like 5+ times a day >_<.

Why can’t the SAT results be released within 7 days of taking it? I mean in China, their standardized exam has over 9 million test takers, is far longer (its a 9 hour long test, essentially), and the results are released in a month.

Imagine how much more lenient the writing curve might e if there were essay questions like:

· Beijing (an essay question from the Gaokao exam)
Using “The drizzle dampens clothes but cannot be seen; flowers fall to the ground without a sound” (细雨湿衣看不见,闲花落地听无声) write an essay of your choice. 800 characters or more.

I only missed 2 on writing and 3 on math but on reading I missed ~ 12 points. I pray to god for a 2100. (my luck im going to get 2090)

@Jarjarbinks23‌ About that last quote: what the flip lol. actually that could be pretty fun, like tufts’ or uchicago’s essay prompts.

@LOLBeast1‌ i pray to god i get anything anything above a 1900, because at this point i’m estimating a 1700-1900. it’d be a miracle if i got anything above that OTL.

@humbugs
About the suneung, I don’t know if the official answers get released the day of, but afaik the answer key’s on a bunch of newspapers & most students self-grade and everything the day of lol. I guess maybe that’s the same thing? Regardless, lazy CB be lazy.

~~~~~ <3 ~~~~~
Ugh at first I was expecting a 10+ on the essay because it was pretty stereotypically (because stereotypical = fits the cookiecutter outline = exactly what CB wants) written, but then I realized it was only 1.5 pages long. Granted, my handwriting is ridiculously tiny, but I doubt the graders are going to care about the text size so much as they’ll care about the fact that I left 0.5 pages blank. And seeing as how I’m pretty sure I got 5+ questions wrong on the MC, I’m soooo doomed.
I definitely got at least 15 wrong on the CR MC, which is… what, a 500-600? OTL.
GUYS I’M SO SCAREEDDDDDDDDD
You can still get a 1900 if you did ok on math. -15 Cr will be around 630-640. -5 w/ 10 essay will be ~ 660/670?
@LOLBeast1‌ I think I got -10 on math at least lol.
But idk though. So thanks.
And I said *at least/i, which pretty much just means that I probably got way more wrong…
orz
Estimating ~7-8 for the essay, too. Maybe a 9 if I’m lucky.
Why did I take the SATs?
Should have gone with ACT.
guys I have a question! For those who got the essay prompt about lying and truth, would it have been alright for me to use government-related examples like 1984, watergate, the Chinese communist party (this was a personal example as I talked about my father escaping china because of it)? Thanks!
@presque Supposedly examples from history/literature are really good to use, so those all sound great! I used Richard Nixon as one of my examples so I certainly hope so, anyway…
As long as you related them to your prompt and thesis you’re fine @presque‌
I think I got (maybe) -2 in writing, hopefully a better than 8 essay since I wrote more than last time and developed it quite nicely… and -2 or 3 in math. Cr was just horrid lol I’m expecting high 500s or low 600s. I’m going to be so sad too because I just wanted to break 2100 and I could have if I wasn’t so fickle with my cr answers :frowning: I ignored my own advice on the test: go with your first choice unless you know you overlooked something
This was my first time taking it, and I’m shooting for an 1800+. The essay went very well, and I was able to fit everything on two pages. In fact, I probably would have benefitted from having an extra half a page the way I was writing, haha! The writing and reading were both rather easy, and some of the math questions were pretty simple as well. The test generally came off well, but the only way to know for sure is to get the score report back.
What colleges are you sending your scores to? I sent mine to UMass Amherst, Bentley, Quinnipiac, Hofstra, SUNY Binghamton, Clark, Stetson, and Rider.
@lbad96‌ are you using your free score reports?
@Jellybae‌ Yup! In fact, I qualified for fee waivers, so all of my score reports are free! :)
can someone please explain what the point of sending your scores is? is it only for seniors?
@shinchang Most people send their scores after they get their results. I think it’s free if you send them before but you have to pay extra fees if you send them after (which is what most students do)
I’m so mad that they ended the free ones on the 16th. Like I’m a junior I’m not applying to college yet… They could have at least made it the 27th so I can see my scores before I send them?
It literally costs them nothing to send an electronic copy of our scores to colleges, yet they make us pay for each one we send after a certain date
Exactly! And I’m supposed to believe that CB is a “nonprofit organization”
Aiiiiight thanks guys. Just wasn’t sure because it seemed to be referring to more about an individual rather than a government situation!
Also, yeah, the only thing you ever need to know about the collegeboard is they will keep trying to make money off of you and you have no choice but to give it to them. Public enemy #1.
