June 6 2009 SAT I Thread

present(March test):
Math - 790
Critical Reading - 590
Writing- 700
Total - 2080

Future (June test) goal:
Math - 800
Critical Reading - 700
Writing- 780
Total - 2280 (this is probably high enough for HYPM ???)

October test goal:

Math - 800
Critical Reading - 750
Writing - 800
Total- 2350

If I could do this in October, then in November I’ll take
Physics (retake) and raise it from a 750 (January test) to a 800
and Korean with Listening - aiming for an 800

If I manage to pull this off then I’m pretty much set and ready for college lol

590 -> 790 LMAO

Critical reading is very difficult to improve in. It is not like math where you memorize the concepts.

You need to know complicated syntax choices.

when do the May scores come out ?

May comes out of Thursday.

And I want to bring my 550 CR up to a 600. Which I think is a bit more reasonable than a 590->790. Holy crap. haha

Yeah, CR is hard to improve in, you have to have a hugeeee vocabulary for the sentence completions which is the hardest part for me.
In Math you just need practice, in Writing you just need to know a working writing format and the grammar rules, both a lot easier to learn than vocab lists :(

The hardest part of the critical reading section is where you’re presented with a sentence and part of it is underlined and you have to pick which BEST fits it.

It’s not enough to be right. You have to be the “most” right.

I can see how it would drive math nerds crazy. Luckily I am an English person though  But the math part does slaughter me. It takes me way too long to finish the questions even if I know how to do them.

I’m looking for a 2200+, but a 2100 wouldn’t be a disappointment, which I know I can get.

My math scores are what bring me down. In my prep class in school, my Math scores would be absurdly low in relation to my other scores (low-mid 600’s, compared to mid 700s for writing and CR).

I truly think I can score well on CR, as I consistently get in the 720+ range, and with writing, I think with a few brushups over concepts, I can pull it around my CR score.

As for math, I’ve bought the Gruber book and am about to start to go over the concepts. Hopefully I can bring my score up since I’ve been told that math is the easiest to bring up.

Ugh what exactly am I supposed to do to improve my critical reading… I got 4 questions wrong on the december SAT and got a 740. I don’t think I can get <4 wrong…

Are you complaining about a 740? Are you real?

If I got a 740 CR I would be crazy happy… 1540 would be pretty good :p

yeah im retaking in june too. i took the jan test and got:
640 math
740 reading
710 writing
hoping to pull my reading and writing up to 800 and math up to 700+. the weird thing is that i love math.

^ For critical reading I suggest reading the passages first then answering the questions. I look back as needed. yeah and vocab prep helps a bunch too. i used direct hits and the barrons flash cards.

Math was pretty hard in January.I only got 610 even though I am a straight A math student…On practice tests I score at the range of 710-740 .I will be really glad to improve to 760 in June (I ve heard that June math tests are not that hard ;[ )
I scored 600 on CR in Jan but after memorizing the notorious Barrons 3500 list ,I managed to improve to high 600s ,even mid 700s ; I will love to see a 700 in June
WR is almost perfect now : 740-780 (I scored 630 in Jan but it is easy to improve after doing lots of practice questions. The idioms can hurt me ,though

So guys, did u prepare for the big day :)What are your expectations ,hopes
I still have 7 tests to do from the BB and some vocabulary to review
I am hoping for a :
M 740-780 (800 If I am lucky enough)
WR 800
CR 700-720

Unfortunately ,the difference between 740 M and 800 M is only 3 errors (4 at best)

I play basketball, i just need 50 points for my SAT I am not on the level as most of yall but help me improve CR please

Only if u promise us you will make it to (W)NBA :)

I have like 4 or 5 more CB tests to do and then 9 more Sparknotes.

Goals - CR600, M700, W650.

CR is … somewhat realistic. I got “into” an article yesterday and nailed 22/24 questions in the section. Which is soo much better than I’ve been doing. I usually suck because I can’t get into them.

CR questions are easy to answer as long as you understand the passage. If it is about a person telling his/her story ,the passage is easy.
I hate passages involving many person, different names, different points of view .

Oh, definitely. After I finish up this organic chem sheet, I’ll probably tackle a full CR portion of a test. Just to see where I stand.

I will take June 6 SAT, too.
Goals:
M 800 (I’ll try to be more careful than I did in Maths IC)
CR 650
W >600

My goals areeee
M 800
CR 700+
Writing 700
