June SAT I: CR Discussion Thread

This is the official discussion thread for the CR section.

To help future takers, what is your estimated score, what books did you use and find helpful, and any tips for those taking in October?
For October takers, I used Direct Hits 1 and Direct Hits 2. Many people seem to like Rocketreview Revolution: The Ultimate Guide to the New SAT for CR too. And you should already have the Blue Book [note: I scored 2340 in May]

And check out <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1154874-fast-sat-prep-guide-books-study-plans-more-2080-2340-10-days-v1.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1154874-fast-sat-prep-guide-books-study-plans-more-2080-2340-10-days-v1.html</a></p>

And yeh, I know these discussion threads are early (but only by an hour or so) - I'm bored and hoping to help future takers :P

i have 2 sentence completion questions, the first has answers “turncoat” and “heavyweight”, the second “spare”/“grim”/“discursive”/“diffuse”. what are the right answers?

the first one is underdog and the second one is spare.
The embargo has not lifted and I’ll erase mine soon.

why spare? though it was like “no word was wasted”? and spare - superfluous?

Sentence Completion section was f***ing difficult, wasn’t it?
I think I got 4 wrong, and could you expect the projected score for me?.. I suppose the curve will be much more generous than Dec or Jan one… considering the level of difficulty.

withoutdoubt // i don’t exactly remember the context but I felt that other choices were absolutely absurd… SC was extremely hard, I agree.

yes, it was. what about the question asking about what author of passage 2 thinks about author of passage 1 that has “grandiose but sound”?

I think I chose different one… guessed the one including “too alarmist”… I could verify my choice b/c there was “perennial” in the given line reference. Still, embargo has not lifted :(

ubiquitous
devise

ohh… i didn’t put grandiose but sound… i put something else

i remember putting too alarmist for one answer

lets talk about math

Math was easy. I think the one (for mine sec. 4 or sec.5) with the last question asking about the median was experimental

its bookworm and not underdog!

talk abt math in the other thread

No. The context said “opressive world” and no choice but “underdog” does fit.

i remember putting diverse for sentence completion

here I’ve already post grid-in ans

also, what was the function of the sentence " since long literacy has been taken as the surest marker of… " - to validate a position or to make a claim ?

oh yes! that one… i put to make a claim aaaahhhh so scared
