lol yea i do consider myself a PRACTICAL person HAHAHAHa ok… im not funny. lol.

Yes, but Spain attempted european dominance through other means, such as sending an Armada to England to conquer England. Exploring new land would give them european dominance. Conquering european nations would (spanish armada)

Poor people at the end of 19th century was Jacob Riis, yes?

European dominance is a huge motive behind colonization. What do you think the whole “Scramble for Africa” was about?

@floobert- hahaha

It has to be european dominance because they definitely wanted new markets…

@swebber- I understand that. However, markets has to be right while european dominance is debatable, which means that it has to be the answer.

Des, yes, I believe so. He wrote that book How The Other Side Lives, right?

Desafinado - yeah, Jacob Riis.

It can’t be new markets. They weren’t selling things to the Aztecs. Anyway, was California or Virginia colonized first. Instinc was VA, but then I remember Spanish missions inCalifornia, which were from the 1540s or so, right?

Here’s another reason I believe it’s “finding new markets for their goods”. Another answer was “Spain wanted to increase it’s prestige”. That answer and European dominance are very similar. They can’t both be right so it’s very likely they’re both wrong.

Des – I put down Virginia, but I think the general consensus somewhere upthread was that Florida was the first.

Practical - What’s the argument behind industrialized goods? Spain wasn’t interested in selling their goods; they wanted gold, silver, slaves and land.

■■■ it was florida

ACTTester- that’s a good point and that’s why I was gonna change my answer. Tbh I’m not even sure at this point.

@Desafinado- Florida was first colonized by Spain.

i argue swebber. the answer was markets.
and florida was first. california was never settled, just missions. and most of them got killed anyway.

I withdraw my argument, I think it’s markets. I was torn between those two anyway :/

i feel like i got 2-3 wrong for sure, but i can’t remember my guess… hopefully +750

Prestige means level of respect and admiration, which is very different from dominating countries.

Spain established sugar plantations in south america and began trading with other nations.

How is this at all related to U.S History???

Yeah, me too. At this point I’m at like -4 and 1 omit.

I think it’s just the one so far. I don’t remember a lot so I guess it ould be more.
