Juniata College Distinguished Scholars Awards

Hi, my name is Tina, and I'm using grammargirl's account to ask this question!

I'm going to be interviewed for the Distinguished Scholars Award sometime this month at Juniata College, and I just wanted to know if anybody out here had children who interviewed for this award. What can I expect? What kinds of questions will they ask? Please help! This is the only way I can afford Juniata College!

(I also posted this in the Juniata forum, but it doesn't seem active, so I'm posting it here, too.)

I don’t have any specific info on this scholarship, my son was interested in there three years ago but ended up elsewhere. I looked at their financial aid page and their scholarship structure has changed but is still as generous as it was before. Their admission’s office was always very friendly, contact them and ask if you need to prepare anything in advance for the interview or bring any documents. I am sure they want you to be yourself and relax. Good luck.

Thanks! I would have never thought to ask if I should bring anything! -Tina

Any other parents out there know anything about the interview?!? -Tina

You might think about bringing your most recent transcript and an activity resume. Good luck!

Tina, are there things you’d like to get across about yourself-- qualities or achievements you’re proud of, or reasons that make Juniata a particularly good fit for you? Think about this ahead and jot a few things down so they’ll be at the top of your mind. What books have you liked recently? What difficulties have you overcome? What do you think you contribute to a community in general? What are you looking for from your education? Get a friend or teacher to have a conversation with you that touches on these things-- it will give you a kind of warmup. Then just be yourself, your best self, and you’ll do wonderfully. Good luck!

Thank you! You both were very helpful!!!
