Junior Aiming For...

What's going on guys.

Ok so here's the run down (brief) of my HS Transcript

Unweighted GPA : 3.8ish
Weighted GPA : 4.1ish

Location: NY
Ethnicity: Asian
Ranked : in top 15% definate, possibly top 10% by Sr. year.

AP's Taken (JR. Year)
- AP Biology
- AP Physics
- AP English

I'm projecting a 5 on Bio, 4-5 on physics, and 4-5 on English.

Crit. Reading - 720
Writing - 700
(Taken once so far, i'll be taking it again in June.)

SAT II:
None taken yet.

Do you recommend taking the ACT's?

All my classes prior to JR year were Honors (as that's the max. my school offered)

Extra circ.
- Position in school debate team (4 years)
- Position in Foreign Culture Club (4 years)
- Position in Science Club (possibly Pres/VP) (4 years)
- Robotics (2 years)

I have multiple affiliations with companies online, as I have worked with them. I have gotten recommendations/work certificates and am wondering if this would help at all?

I have over 200+ hours of volunteer/community service.
I have attended Research Facilities (researching side-by-side with Professors in Uni's.) during the summer
I will be running/managing a company that is online based.

I'm aiming for a school that has a 7-year program (medical). Any suggestions on if this is a good idea or not?

I was looking into Brown, Columbia, George Washington, and Boston. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys.

For a good seven year program, i would consider Union College's Leadership in Mediciine. It's a six year program that gives you your B.S., M.S. and M.D..not too shabby. Plus with your stats you'd be a shoo-in
I'd also consider Univ. of Pittsburgh just because of the UPMC's...it's a traditional eight year program but you're basically guaranteed placement after school
I don't know much about brown or columbia, but my friend's roomate at GWU is in the med program and is VERY happy. Plus, you're def a match for it.
As for Boston do you mean BU? In that case, you'd be a match, but i don't think its a very strong program(i may be wrong)

I don't think you need the ACTs with those SAT scores. I personally only took the ACT and got a 34..but i don't believe in SATs....it might be worth a shot, but you really don't need it.
Hope it helps..
If you please

also..for debate team, are you a nat or state qualifier..
that helps a BUNCH

rocket6louise,

Thank you SOO much for the help.
That's exactly what I was looking for.

I will definately be looking into the colleges you recommended (UCL's Med. and Univ. of Pittsburgh)
Just one question. You said (regarding Pitts.) that you are guaranteed placement after school ... this is regarding what? Job (for lack of a better word?)

I'm glad to hear about GWU. I was closely following that school as well. Do you have any info on the "life" of GWU (yea I already went to their site :P )

@Boston: From what you have heard, what are the "weak" points?

Another question:
I still am planning courses for Sr. year. Which would you recommend (or colleges require/recommend) taking of the following...

AP Physics BC (already took AB this year)
~or~
AP Chemistry

Once again, thank you sooo very much.

Sadly, I don't think my school has ever made it that far.

I did, however, gain "best delegate" (or something of the sort) within the competition that was held between my school and 6 other schools in the area.

Ok..i'll try to get all of your questions.
After Univ. Of Pitt, you can work at ANY UPMC. they dont guarantee placement elsewhere, but the UPMC' are really nice and spread all throughout the area(i'm a pittsburgh resident) and once you've worked in one, you can go to many top hospitals in the world

As far as GWU, the friend who's roommate i mentioned goes for History and Poli sci. So obviously she loves her location. She says there is always something to do on weekends. with so many colleges in the area, she can go to a game of some sort, or just find a party. She also works in the national archieves and says GWU helps you find an internship in your area of study

For Boston, their placement into hospitals is not fantastic. Plus, the amount your are paying is really not equal to what you are getting. Don't really have specifics, just what i've hear...sorry

I would suggest the Chem. You'll need that wayyyy more than the Physics(you need both, but the chem is essential)...

Hope this all helps
Any more questions, PM me

and..i just read about your debate-that's a bummer..
i've done nats twice and that's a huge recruitment thing( i was surpised)
also...if you wouldn't mind to take a look at my chances
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/661839-chances-chances-everywhere-but-not-drop-drink.html

Thank you for the information regarding the colleges. (I'll PM you a few questions, if that's ok?)

Haha - nicely done (NATs). I wish my school did participate in that program, as I'd definitely be close (if not selected) for the nats.

I wish I knew enough about colleges to help you out on your chances. All I can say is WOW, from looking at your placement. Top 1%, 3 outta 447, 34 ACT, ... WOW.

^^thanks for the ego boost...that's nice all in itself...
and try to get your school to do nats, if not for you but for those after you..
they are INCREDIBLE

I'd recommend taking the ACT. I thought it was way easier. I got a 2290 on the SAT and straight 36s on the ACT. The only difficulty I had was time... during the SAT you have forever for each section. During the ACT you're a little more pressed. If you can work quickly, I'd definitely suggest it.
