Hi,
I'm a junior in high school and I'm looking to go to colleges like Princeton, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania, NYU, and SU. Those are not all the colleges I'm looking at, but those are a few ideas. However, I am not sure if it is even possible for me to get into such prestigious schools.

I do not know my GPA but last year my averages were all A's and -A's with an exception of one B+. This year I am getting the same grades. I took one AP last year and two this year. I also get .2 added to my GPA because my school is more difficult than certain others. I made high honors along with effort honors (at my school they rate how hard you work.) I do not know how to find out my PSAT score, but there was a box that said my overall score was a 170 so I think that's it. I am part of a program called Community Wide dialogue (dialogue on racism) as well as the Mentors in Violence Prevention program. I also am a tour guide at a local museum. I volunteered last summer 84 hours at the local hospital and I will do that again this summer. I went to a summer academy for film. I was an ambassador for human rights and was chosen out of 20 other teens to travel to Sri Lanka as an ambassador. I am also part of the school literary magazine as well as a member of the JV volleyball team. My passions are skiing, writing, singing (have been in chorus since kindergarden,) and working for human rights and working with people in general. When I get older, I would like to do something with helping people/ human rights and maybe law.

I would really appreciate some comments to see if I have a chance to get into any of schools! Thank you so much!

Your grades are good but I can’t tell about your tests. You posted here that your PSAT is 170 but a few mins later in a different thread you said it was 180. That’s a pretty big difference. But, no matter what it was you’ll have to do better on the SAT to be in the ballpark for Princeton, Cornell or Penn. The Sri Lanka thing is unique.

Thank you for replying! And sorry, that was a typo. It should say 170. I didn’t study or prepare at all this year (very stupid thing to do) so next year I will be sure to work hard on that. If I do better on my SAT’s, do I have sort of a chance?

Sorry, I took SU to mean Stanford, seeing Stanford so often on CC that I refuse to chance for Stanford in a chance thread if it isn’t bundled with at least one school that isn’t a “reach-for-anyone”. Now that I know you mean Syracuse, I acknowledge that Syracuse is easier to get into and you should aim for 1950+ in that case.

hi, yeah i agree with the others, you definitely need to raise your SAT score A LOT. Maybe consider other schools, but with your ECs, you have a good chance at getting in to good schools, just not Ivy Leagues or other REALLY good schools.
Also, could you chance me as well? Thanks so much!

“I also get .2 added to my GPA because my school is more difficult than certain others” this is not how it works. if your school is inflating grades, wont matter they will recalculate your GPA for you.

You’re right, but I calculated my own GPA since I knew the corresponding number for each letter grade. My GPA doesn’t show up on my report card so I don’t know how to find out what it is unless I do it myself.
