you're absolutely right. Cate is a great school, as is Thatcher - both in California. If only they had junior BS grades! I would love it if my son went to either one in later years.

I have great confidence that you will find the best school for your son. I never in a million years thought that we would send our children to boarding school. So far it has turned out to be more wonderful than we could have imagined for our kids. They seem to be getting what they need. To hear one of them say, "Mom, I'm really loving life right now." and to be so content is really a gift that I never expected. I truly hope it works for your son.

wow -- i've just hit my 100th post!!! I spend WAY too much time on this site. It's the only one I've ever participated in and for some reason it just hooks you. It's great to learn from one another.

liv&learn - a parent can hear no better words than what you posted in #22. :)

"Mom, I'm really loving life right now."

Thank you so much -- I still can't believe it. I also hear, "I walk around here and can't believe that this is my school!" -- pretty incredible. So as difficult as it is to not be with my child every day, it's worth it to hear this.

<3 <3
I hear ya - makes the sacrifice worth while, doesn't it? ;)

Absolutely --

"Mom, I'm really loving life right now."

liv&learn - Thanks! What a great message to read first thing in the morning! If my child has a similar experience in BS, I'll be ecstatic! I'm glad to hear your children are doing so well.

My son graduated from Fay in 2003, and was very well prepared for prep school following graduation. It is a superior school, with terrific and caring teachers, a great campus and a fabulous headmaster, who is unfortunately retiring this year. Terrific secondary school placement team. A great experience for my son academically, socially and athletically.

To Ed Haskell - it's great to hear another former Fay parent on this board! My D, like your S, also entered her secondary bs confident and prepared.
When we made the trip to New England for her to begin her new secondary school, she insisted that we stop at Fay first so that she could visit former teachers.

To creative1 and liv&learn - I know the feeling. My S, who also went to bs, said, "Mom, I don't know why EVERYONE doesn't want to do this!"

Hello, I am currently a 7th grade student at bement School and personally think your son would be fine here. Kids dont bully alot and there is alot of kids with adhd too! all the teachers are really supportive and if you need someone to talk to anyone is good. PLease ask me ANY questions!!!!!!!!!!

Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, CT is great if you are looking for your son to fit in and be looked after. The structured, yet open somehow, atmosphere provides great a great place for learning and growing. They don't make you grow up too fast, but are recently offering more and more activities for kids who want to challenge themselves. It has a population of ADHD children, and accommodates these differences well. There is a wide variety boarders from an array of countries and states. If your son is self-motivated and ready to push himself, this may be a good choice. PM me if you are interested.

bement has tons of sports and its not like evryone knows u have adhd! and anyways nobody cares! were all a big family and all the boarders have cryed because they don't want to go home! go to the website!!!!!!!!!!1

esg: Thanks so much for your feedback! Its nice to hear a student's perspective and to hear you are so happy there. When it comes to homework and stuff, is there someone there who keeps an eye on you and helps make sure you don't get behind. My son is a great student, but he also loves to have a good time with his friends and can get distracted and lose track of stuff.

well we have a syste3m for people who are disorganized or dont hand in their homework called "homework contract." there is a slip of blue paper and when you dont hand in your homework you go to "day 1" and then you try to work your way up until you have been on it for 2 weeks straight(maybe less im not sure) with handing in all your homework. It helps alot because it pushes you to try harder. And it is not like your son would be the only one on it. There are a lot of people especially boarders on it and nobody makes fun of you. In addition every night they have a boarder study hall and you have time to work in our library with computers books and most of the time some of your teachers are there to proctor it and you can ask questions. If you are a boarder the dorm parents make sure you do your homework but for your son, there is tons of time to goof off on the wekends too. In the regular schol day there is also a study hall where ALL your teachers are available to ask questions and get help on homework. In addition to this time you can work in the dorm too.

Dear esg,

Thanks again for the message. Why do you think more boarders are on the "homework contract"?

Dear lookingformore,

Thank you very much for the info! We are looking forward to our visit. Though my son loves music and drama, his primary interest is in the sciences, especially biology. How would you assess Indian Mountain's science program?

Well I don't really know. Um...well the kids in my grade who are on homework contract and are boarders jmost of the time do their work but for example my frend who is very disorganized was asked to be put on homework contract. Im not really sure what to say about it but it is true that alot of the homework contract kids are boarders. But i think you will find that at any school being a boarder is also kind of hard sometimes because you have your friends around you. But at our school we do have alot of extra help available and stuff so ya.........idk(i dont know sorry for IM lingo ur son probably know what im saying) why but its just a thing. But i hope this doesnt make you not want to go to my school...Its VERY good!

Consider Rumsey Hall and Indian Mountain both in CT

esg,

Don't worry - something like that would not dissuade us from a school. We have only heard wonderful things about your school and I'm well aware that ALL kids don't get their homework done from time to time. Remember, Although it was very long ago now, I was a kid once too. Your answer as to why boarders were often on the contract was on tract with my suspicions and I assume that will be the situation with my son as well. I am happy to hear though that there is no real negative repercussins of the contract amd that students often proactively choose to use the contract as a tool to improve their organizational skills.

Can you tell me more specifically (of course without personal details) what it is you love about your school? For ex: friendly atmosphere, the teachers, sports team, etc...
