I have a son with a language based learning disabilities/dyslexia, who may be a candidate for JrBS. He loves sports, loves his friends, is funny and creative. He will need remedial writing and spelling. I am trying to gather as much information as I can about the different academic and social cultures at some of these schools. Coed/vs. all boys, Individual Instruction programs, LBLD kids percentage, and outcomes for kids whose parents have chosen to address LBLD using programs at Junior Boarding Schools. I would be so grateful to hear about anyone's experiences.

Perhaps this?

[schools for learning disability, dyslexia school | Oakland School](http://www.oaklandschool.net/)

Thank you. I am especially interested in the schools that seem to have programs for all types of students and not just LD students. Rectory, Indian Mountain School, Cardigan, Eaglebrook etc. Any knowledge of these schools?

Just bumped a previous JBS thread on “Prep School Admissions”, should be helpful.

My son attended IMS for 3 years and loved it. The work was challenging, but not overwhelming. There is lots of support available to those who need it, but classes are all together (with the exception of the ESL group) Only a very small percentage of students are LD, and the most common ones are ADHD and dyslexia. I found the support available to be top shelf, and there is no way for kids to fall between the cracks. Whle the boarding community comprises around 80 students, it is a close knit and active campus on weekends with lots of activities and sports. Most of my son’s day student friends felt the boarders got the best deal.

The thing that impressed me most about IMS was the sense of cummunity and the caring and dedicated faculty. While some schools may be able to show off glitzy new buildings and huge endowments, take a good look at the community and the programs. IMS has this more than the other schools we looked at (Eaglebrook, Fay, Rumsey, Fessenden)

My son had the choice of 6 out of 8 of the prep schools he applied to after graduating from IMS. He is currently enjoying a semester abroad before returning this fall for his senior year and college applications.

I’ve also heard good things about Rectory, but only know second-hand. Another school to look at is Kildonan, which IMS used to send the occasional student for a year or shorter for more intensive work before (re)enrolling at IMS. Two of my son’s friends went though Kildonan before coming to IMS and did extremely well. One has just gotten early acceptance into U Penn!
