My friend got into UVa with quest bridge and she doesn't really want to go but she said she has to. I told her that, that isn't always the case because some schools are non-binding but she said you HAVE to go if matched. Does this really apply to all schools.(Specifically I have Yale in mind, whether or not it would be binding if matched because they are SCEA).

Secondly, how hard is it to get a college prep scholarship to Yale for the summer? Is it VERY competitive and how many students are admitted?

The non-binding QuestBridge Partner Schools are Yale, Stanford, Princeton, MIT, and Notre Dame. So if you are matched with Yale you will not have to go.

However, UVa is binding, and your friend is supposed to go. If she didn’t really want to go, why did she rank UVa?

I’m not knowledgeable enough to answer your second question, sorry. Hopefully someone else will be able to!

That was very helpful thank you for the prompt reply! I guess she wanted to be matched with something for a full ride rather than nothing at all. I’m not sure though?

Hmm who knows. Yeah a full ride is great, especially to a great school like UVa (that was one of the main three I had to choose between last year). But if she didn’t want to attend I’m not sure why she ranked the school in the first place.

Please do apply for the all the QB college prep scholarships you’re interested in. Don’t be concerned with how many other people apply or get selected. Some applicants get chosen for more than one of the different scholarships available. (although probably not more than one summer program)

Watch the deadline for it so you don’t miss it and start working on your essays and short answers now so you’ll have time to revise them as you think about them over time. Also, start getting your required teacher recommendation letter and financial info ready. Plenty of kids don’t apply because they miss the deadlines or don’t allow enough time to really put together a good application. Get started NOW! Although wait until after January to ask for teacher recommendation letter since many are still writing them for high school seniors.
