questbridge uneasiness

anyone else feel unsure about their app?
i'm in no situation to deny anything like this, seeing as of this is the only way I would be able to afford college, due to the fact that i am here on an f2 visa. nevertheless, this match program is BINDING. if, say, i get chosen, i would have to withdraw all other apps. what if one of my dream schools accepts me and gives me awesome fin aid? for example, harvard meets 100% of fin aid. my family makes wayyy less than 60,000 a year. what if i got questbridge and had to turn down harvard? i'd go insane. so here i am, writing my questbridge essays, scared and confused. once again, i am in no position to pass this up, ifffff i get chose. but gaaaah early decision scares the beejeezus out of me.

It won’t matter, because if you are matched you will withdraw your Harvard app so you won’t know if they accepted you or not. What was their acceptance rate last year, 6% or so? If you feel that lucky, only do QB RD and roll the dice.

One option then is to only apply through Questbridge to non-binding schools and apply to the others through QB RD, like what GA2012MOM suggested. Also, since so many well regarded colleges accept application through QB these days, if you look into the list of schools, you’ll most likely find one that you’ll be happy with. Also, Princeton and especially Yale are so similar to Harvard in culture and academics that what you find at H, you’ll find the equivalent at the other two, both of which accept QB application, if I remember correctly.

Just don’t rank any school that you have intention of attending.

You may wish to consider only ranking the non-binding partner institutions.

thank you guys!!! yeah that “choosing non binding schools” sounds pretty awesome. Thanks for the help. :)

With everyone choosing non-binding schools, you can guess how competitive those will be!

You can just choose the schools that are “non-binding” like Yale
