Junior Schedule: Double up on math or science?

My planned schedule for my Junior year is AP Lang., AP US History, French, Precalc, and a chem. That leaves me with 1 class left to choose for and I'm debating on whether to double up on math and take AP Calc, or double up on science and take chem with AP Physics or AP Bio. If so, which one. I want to have a rigorous schedule to compete for top, good colleges, and I also want to major in Computer Science so I want to know which path is the best for me. I'm currently taking Algebra 3-4, regular Bio, and regular Physics right now as a sophomore. What are your thoughts?

I’m looking to major in CS too. I went with the math pathway personally.
Wouldn’t the things you learn in Pre-Calc interfere with the things you learn in AP CALC?

Don’t take precalc and calc at the same time. It’s in the name–precalc goes BEFORE calc, not WITH

Does your school have block scheduling or would you be taking pre-calculus and calculus at the same time? (The latter could work because you don’t need everything from pre-calculus right away in calculus, so you wouldn’t be completely lost, but it’s not optimal and I don’t know if most schools would allow it anyway.)

If you took calculus junior year, what math class would you take senior year? Would you end up at a higher level by the end of senior year than you would have gotten to otherwise? If so, I’d recommend taking two math classes this year.

Oh shoot, I mean Precalc + AP Stats! oopsies lol
So the two options are PreCalc + AP Stats or chem + AP Bio or AP Physics.
One of my senior friends tell me that if I double up on science, I should take chem + ap bio because they compliment each other well. But I’m better at physics than I am at bio right now, so I am more comfortable with taking AP Physics. Also because of the new, confusing 2 year AP Physics, I feel like I should take AP Physics now in case if I want to take the 2nd half of it, I am able to my senior year. Chem is kind of a ‘mandatory’ class because my bio teacher says that those who want to go into 4 year university should take all 3 sciences (bio, chem, physics) so that’s why I’m taking chem nonetheless.
I’m thinking maybe I should double up on science with AP Physics + Chem, and double up on math my senior year?

Do not take AP Biology, it ironically has nothing to do with Computer Science.

So you have a choice between AP Physics or AP Statistics, which both has to do with Computer Science, along with AP Calculus (BC preferably), AP Chemistry, and of course AP Computer Science A.

From there, I would probably have to go with, eh, AP Physics, because honestly since you will probably take AP Chemistry senior year…AP Chem and Physics combined is ooooh boy, not good.

I would rather deal with AP Statistics and AP Calculus senior year than AP Chemistry and AP Physics senior year .

Wait, which AP Physics are you going to take? 1, 2, or C?

@elefish92 those are great advices! and good thinking because I will probably take AP Chem senior year, I’m glad you said AP Chem and Physics don’t mix well together to know in advanced. As re: which Physics, I have no idea what the situation is going on with the AP Physics class. All I heard is AP Physics will be made into 2 years, so I will take the first year next year and see if I should continue with it my senior year.
So 1 vote for double up science with AP Physics & Chem. Anybody else?

AP Physics B is being split into 2 years.

^ Sadly, B is going to be 1 and 2.

It’s really up to you, one of them is fine. Ask your Physics teacher on what will be the difference between 1 and 2.

By the way, 1 and 2 is algebra-based and C is calculus-based. If your school do doesn’t offer C then you are lucky, 1 2 would be better and you could note on your college app that they didn’t offer C.

If they do however…again, up to you, base it on motivation, math skills and whether or not you follow directions and maybe memorize easily.

I don’t know why, but regular Physics right now is my most favorite and easiest class for me, so I am comfortable taking AP Physics more than anything, but regarding the splitting of classes and such, I don’t have much knowledge about it except of it being split. As far as I know, there’s only the 2 AP Physics class that is being split into, nothing further so I guess there’s no C. I’ve had a brief conversation with my Physics and he’s also the AP teacher and he said that I need to take the first part of Physics first, (which he says is mainly review of what we’ve learnt this year but just more indepth and a few more new things). Then the next year depending on how many students are interested, there will be the second part available.

I don’t know what people are saying but Chem and Physics complement each other nicely. I’m currently taking AP Chem and AP Physics and I have A’s in both. They are really nice together. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though.

good to know @hawkace! It was just from only one person that said Chem and Bio compliment each other. I’m sure Chem and Physics do too. So…the majority of y’all are suggesting that I double up on science, anyone who thinks it’s better to double up on math? And what do you think of my idea of doubling up on science junior year & double up on Math senior year?

Either would be fine.

double up on science

@DaneBrick do you have a rationale as to why I should do that? And which science should i take?
