Hi, What do you guys think of my schedule plan for junior/senior year? I want to major in biology in college and eventually become a pediatrician because science is cool.
Junior Year:
AP Chem
AP Bio
U.S History Honors
English Honors
Acting 2 or Playwriting
Trig/Pre Calc Honors
Spanish 3 honors or CP…im not that great at language and i heard spanish 3 honors is hell because of a certain teacher at my school so idk man…ill probs end up taking honors ugh
Senior Year:
Honors Physics
Human Anatomy Honors
Creative Writing/Technology requirement (half year courses)
AP Lit
Acting 3 Honors
AP Calc AB or BC (ill figure this out later)
Spanish 4
Although, I want to major in science, I love art as well. I love acting and english class almost as much as I love biology and the other sciences. It bothers me when people question whether I am an “art” person or “science/math person” and how its weird that I am taking acting when I want to major in biology. I consider it almost as taking orchestra or learning an instrument. Art is in general is extremely important to me even if my dream is to want to help children in the medical field as a career.
Also do u guys think it is essential for me to take AP Pysch given my career choice?
AP Chem and AP Bio both in the same year are going to be tough, but its doable if you put hard work into your studies. Are you on a semester schedule for classes?
Regarding psych, it’s not necessary to take in HS. If you decide to major in biology, I’m assuming you will also be on a pre-med track at a college you go to. If I’m not mistaken, they recommend about 6-7 science classes to take that will prepare you for the MCAT, including psych.
No, don’t take AP Psych if you don’t want to (unless you’re thinking of using it to get credit for college-level psych as a requirement for premed).
AP Chem and AP Bio in the same year is fine, since it (no offense) doesn’t seem like you’ve got an extremely intense courseload apart from those two. Although trig does trip some people up.
Senior Year:
Honors Physics
Human Anatomy Honors
Creative Writing/Technology requirement (half year courses)
AP Lit
Acting 3 Honors
AP Calc AB or BC (ill figure this out later)
Spanish 4
I would recommend that you take one AP science a year instead of two at a time. If you move AP Bio or AP Chem to senior year then you could probably handle AP USH and AP English Lang as a junior. Then, as a senior, you could take whichever AP science you didn’t take in 11th grade.
Your schedule would then look like this:
Junior Year:
AP Bio or AP Chem
Honors Physics or Honors Human Anatomy
Trig/Pre Calc Honors
AP Lang
AP USH
Honors or Regular Spanish 3
Acting 2 or Playwriting
Senior Year:
AP Bio or AP Chem (whichever you didn’t take before)
Honors Physics or Honors Human Anatomy (whichever you didn’t take before)
AP Calc AB or BC (if you got an “A” in precalc take BC, if you got a “B” take AB)
AP Lit
Honors or Regular Spanish 4
Honors Acting 3
Creative Writing/Technology
I think your schedule is definitely geared to medicine. Make sure that you are fulfilling all of your course requirements in high school (which I don’t know, but it is a reminder). The courses that you are planning to take will definitely help you in your undergrad studies.
Finally, you will need AP Psych when you take the MCAT. Here are the four sections of the test:
-Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems
-Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems
-Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior
-Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills

Best of luck!
