Junior Transfer Student Chances; UMich, UCLA, USC, Penn State

Hello! I am currently a sophomore and I am looking to transfer to a different college for my Junior and Senior year of college. Some of the colleges I am looking to transfer to are UMich, UCLA, USC, and Penn State. Here are my stats;

Major: Computer Science

Freshman Year:
First semester GPA - 1.89
Second semester GPA - 3.8

Sophomore Year (GPA is what I’d ideally get)
First Semester: 3.7
Second Semester - 3.8

Clubs/Organizations:
Business Society
Ski/Snowboard Club
Intramural Sports

High School Stats;

GPA: 3.0
SAT: 1510
ACT: None (Didn’t take ACT)

I completely tanked my first semester of college because I was trying to balance working and school at the same time, as well as letting all that newly come freedom that I never really got get to my head and it affected my school work. I quickly switched it around after I saw my horrendous GPA. All of the schools above are Out of State for me. My school doesnt offer a lot of clubs that I am interested in. What are my chances for the schools I listed? What can I do to help improve my chances?

Penn State doesn’t take transfers at University Park for engineering majors…

So your GPA is 2.85. Based on that I think your chances are low

This really depends on what college you currently attend. If it’s a great school, you have a better chance but your GPA is very low. Best of luck!

UCLA’s GPA admit range for CS transfers is 3.86-4.00. No chance at all if you are looking at a 3.0 UC transferable GPA. You might want to consider UC Riverside 3.03-3.56 and Santa Cruz 3.18-3.74. Also UC’s do not consider HS GPA or Tests scores and you need a minimum 60 semester/90 quarter units to transfer along with meeting all required transfer course requirements. No financial aid will available so expect to pay $60K/year to attend if accepted being OOS makes you low priority.
