Basically, I'm in my 2nd semester as a junior and have yet to have had an internship (I've never applied for one). I'm not sure if this is unusual or not but I'm starting to worry that I may be falling behind competitively. I have a 3.59 GPA (3.2 in my one semester since transferring from a CC) but no work experience.

Could someone explain how these things typically work?

You should get an internship for this summer to be competitive for full time position after graduation. A lot of juniors apply for summer internship in the fall or spring. More often than not, those internships would lead to permanent positions, and employers would make the offer at the end of summer. If you haven’t applied for a job yet, you are a bit behind. I think it would be hard for you to get a job after graduation if you have never worked before.

I figured so. I’ll try to talk to an adviser or something and see about an internship this summer like you’ve suggested. I know my college offers a summer internship class but I’d imagine I’d be pretty tough to get into to.
