Junior Year Art or Computer/Design Course?

Hey, I have am a current sophomore in high school and I have my course selections for next year due by the end of the end of this week. I am having trouble deciding what class to take as my final elective. I have a choice between Art 3 and numerous Computer Application, Design, Programming courses, etc. I took Art my Freshman and Sophmore years, and these computer courses were not available to me until this upcoming year. There is only room for one, so have a tough choice here. I am a Math and Science guy, and I am looking forward to going to college, majoring inn and continuing a career in a science field, whether it be deeply involved mathematics, basic sciences, computer sciences, etc, etc... However, I also have a passion for art to an extent that I see it as a stress reliever, but not necessarily as a "career".

My school has a big Art department, and I can continue on to take AP Studio Art my senior year,so long as I take Art 3 next year. However, I know many friends taking the computer classes and I know how huge of a help an understanding of computer languages can be in the modern world. I really don't know what to do...There is also talk of the Junior Art class taking away Junior Sciences, so I would be a year behind in Science, but I want to take 4 years of it...I really am not sure, what would you guys take if you were in my position?

Also, as far as admissions into big math and science schools, maybe even Ivies or MIT, could a big Art Portfolio and dedication to such as class be impressive, so long as I maintain high grades, test scores, and many extracurriculars?

Hi. I’m in the exact same situation. I’m currently a freshman, and I’m planning on taking AP Studio Art next year (I know what I’m getting myself into, and the teacher also strongly recommended me to), along with 3 other APs. My main problem with my classes for next year is that I had to choose between honors chemistry and AP Studio Art (I’m already going to take AP Bio). I understand where you’re coming from, considering what colleges would like to see. In my personal opinion, as long as you can maintainhigh grades, test scores, extracurriculars, and have an impressive application, go for it. Aside from taking classes that would help your major, I think colleges would also want students to have something aside from that, such as a talent or hobby. Taking art all four years would definitely show that you have your own interest, along with passion and dedication. It’s just my opinion, but good luck with your course selections, mine gave me a huge headache.
