I'm a junior in love with Georgetown. In LOVE. I really want to go there.

This year I'm taking two AP classes: APUSH and English, self studying Psych. (There's only five or so open to juniors, and the others are science/art related..I want to major in IR/ME studies.) I'm in Academic Physics (Applied is the lowest class level, then Academic, then Honors). My physics teacher warned us that the first nine weeks of her class would be the hardest and that it would get better and easier. Right now, I have a 89.8% (B) with three and 1/2 weeks left. My grade constantly teeters between a 91% and 89%. I've heard that for top tier schools like GU, if you have a B junior year you have no chance.

Is this true?? I have A's in every other class and my highest grade is in AP Eng. It might seem stupid to be asking but will this affect any chances?

It’s not true.

Not taking science/art APs because you don’t plan on majoring in a related field isn’t a very good excuse if you ask me.

Then what is a good excuse? If you’ve got a passion for History, why would you be taking AP Biology or AP Chemistry instead of AP US History or AP World History? If you’d like to express your interest in a certain field, I think focusing your energy towards it is a very good way to do it.

I didn’t say I wasn’t going to take any science APs next year…I plan on taking AP Bio (love the teacher and I already took what seem deems the pre-AP Bio course) in addition to AP English and AP Euro next year… AP Arts, on the other hand, would be a GPA killer as my skills are worse than a four year old’s :)

Thanks Flight23.

Is it bad to have a B on any report card junior year (for me, any nine week period), or just for a semester/year grade? Especially because I plan on going into IR, would having a B in a science course matter anyway? :)

I feel like as long as your semester averages for junior year are a’s then you’re fine. If you’re transcripts look like mine do, then the semester average is all you have to worry about for junior year (technically, although you want to excel in all your cources).

Georgetown wants to see that you’re a well-rounded student, so even if you’re not thinking of doing anything with science in your IR field, it’s always good to try to get the best grade you can get (just for senior year, first semester refference). But because that was a B in during jr year, you should be fine. =)

Hope that helped. Sorry if it was kind of rambling; I tend to do that. =)
