Hey everyone! So i'm finalizing my choices for junior year schedule, and I was wondering if I should do AP Chemistry or AP Government. Junior year is the first year I am allowed to take AP Classes, and I am limited to 3. I already committed to AB Calc and Physics. I have room for only one more, and I was advised to push chemistry to senior year along with ap biology, because of course load at my school ( Guidance counserlor's advice), but some seniors told me I should take AP Chem to be a pre-med. What do you guys suggest?

Thanks!

Take Gov because you’re already taking Physics; Chem and Physics are usually considered on the most rigorous side of AP classes, so taking them together would be stressful and not fun. Bio and Chem would be easier to double up.

If you want to apply to STEM and want to take SAT2 on Chemistry, go for the AP Chem. But having 2 AP sciences in Junior may be over killing.

If you think you can handle AP Chem with Calc and Physics, go for it. Since you want to be a STEM major taking chemistry does make more sense, but only if you think you can get all As with that course load.

I plan to take SAT 2 chem regardless, and also will be taking the october SAT 2 biology… but I know for a fact that the AP Chemistry scores at my school are really weak (highest score being a 3) and AP Government are high scores typically 4/5, if that makes any difference.

I’d suggest pushing AP Chem to senior year. Physics, Calc, and Chem together will be a challenge.

It also depends on how tough classes are at your school. Each school has its own culture which should influence how you plan your schedule more than anything random CC members say. For example In my HS kids take 6 weighted (AP/IB) classes junior and senior year so your schedule seems pretty easy, even with AP Chem, AP Calc, and AP Physics. However kids from your school (or any other school where you take 3/4 AP classes junior year) may think you’re crazy for trying three of the more rigorous AP classes in one year. Take the schedule that you think will help you the most. At the end of the day you will/should take AP Chem. Its just a matter of deciding whether you think you can get As in all your classes.

My school only allows 3 per year, starting junior year, and people think i’m ambitious taking 3 as previously essentially nobody has ever attempted that O_o i hope colleges will take into consideration that with 6 APs i have completed my school’s maximum. I do plan to self-study the lighter ones, such as psych and human geo if i can find time.
