Hello everyone!
It’s that time of year. Schedule selections are coming up next month at my school. Next year I will be a junior, and I’m conflicted about which courses I should take. Here are my freshman and sophomore schedules:
9
-English 1 honors
-Precalculus honors
-Chemistry honors
-AP Human Geography
-Spanish 2
-Orchestra
-Intro to Info Tech
10
-English 2 honors
-AP Calculus AB
-AP Chemistry
-AP World History
-Spanish 3 honors
-Orchestra
-Choir
-Woodshop 1
Now, the conflict comes because recently I was invited to join the AP Capstone program junior and senior year. Before this, I was 100% certain that I would dual enroll English and possibly another science class, but now I’m not sure since I have a lot of friends and upperclassmen telling me that capstone is really worth it. Here are my two schedule possibilities:
11.1
-AP English Lang + Composition
-AP Seminar
-AP Calculus BC
-Physics honors
-US History honors
-Choir
-Woodshop 2
11.2
-DE Freshman Composition 1/2
-some DE Chemistry class, if offered
-AP Calculus BC
-Physics honors
-US History honors OR DE US history, if offered
-Choir
-Woodshop 2
This is a very difficult situation for me. I will definitely do some sort of dual enrollment my senior year, so I don’t know if I should start that junior year, or if I should just stay in school.
Any and all opinions are welcomed!! Thank you all!!
What’s your GPA? Or rather, what are your grades, generally, in your classes? It’s impossible to advise you on scheduling if we do not know your academic capability and performance in certain classes.
@Wolfgangbread I’ve gotten straight A’s in all my classes, meaning a 4.0 UW. So I’m pretty academically capable.
Also, I’m better at math and science than English and history.
I suppose it varies on what you want out of this. Both are impressive, but it boils down to what kind of experience you’re looking for and how you want to prepare for college (in terms of racking up AP credits and such).
I personally would go with the first option. You can always dual enroll next year as well, and the AP Capstone program would take precedent over dual enrollment classes for me.
@Wolfgangbread Thank you so much for your opinion! I’ll keep your points in mind.
Anyone else?
This is the first year my school offered dual enrollment and they told the kids that took it if they want to go to college out of state, then they may not accept the credit. Have you checked with your choice of college? That may help with deciding.
Or could you possible take choir out to take capstone? If choir is something you absolutely love, then take it, but if not, then I wouldn’t bother. Looks like a great schedule though!
@georgie21 I’ve heard the same thing about credits from my counselors, so yeah that’s a pretty good factor. I’m probably leaning more toward the ap route at this point. Also, the thing with capstone is that you have to take it with AP English, which is the class id take DE. So capstone as an elective wouldn’t work in that scenario. Plus, id never drop choir for anything.
Thank you so much!
That’s how I am with health science! Good luck next year
I also second going with the first option. Save your dual enrollment for later. Most likely you will get more use out of your AP credit than your DE credit. It’s the most bang for your time
@bwalts61 Thank you for your opinion.
I have officially decided to pursue the capstone program. Thank you all for your responses, they really helped!
