Okay so its time for me to begin thinking of the courses I want to take next year (junior year) and I was wondering which one of the schedules looks more impressive. I'm applying to University of Chicago, UC's, and other top schools.

Schedule 1:
AP US
AP Environmental Science
AP/Honors English Lang. (don't know if I'll take AP or Honors)
H Biology
Color Guard
Math Analysis (Pre-Cal)

Schedule 2:
AP US
AP Biology
AP/Honors English
Spanish 3
Math Analysis
Color Guard

I was also thinking about just taking Biology at my local CC (so I don't need to take it) because I want to take either AP Physics (or Honors) in senior year but with all the budget cuts in California they may not take High School classes anymore. I want to have a semi-heavy load because I still need to study for SATs and probably going to volunteer/work on weekdays. In Addition, I really want to continue my Spanish education but I don't know because it may clash with my schedule...

BQ: Do top colleges care if you take all 4 years of Math. I really want to not take a math for junior year but I really hate math with a passion!

And to you lurkers who read but don't comment..your opinion is highly valued :]]]

Stick with math. It looks way better to see math three/four years, and if you want to get into a very selective college, definitely four years, even if you hate it. Atleast three years though, two is NOT enough for college.

Between your two schedules, I think you should pick the second one. 3+ years of a language shows that you go above and beyond the A-G requirements and is highly recommended for competitive colleges.

Rgarding the science issue, take whatever you’re more interested in. If it’s required to take Bio and you haven’t taken it yet, then you should probably take it next year so you can take AP Enviro or AP Physics senior year. If you really want to take both, you could also consider self-studying APES or an online course or something… I’ve heard it’s one of the easiest AP’s. Or take it over the summer.

I hate to say it, but most people applying to u chicago will have at least four math credits…math isn’t horrible, if you’re able to relate it to what you like, such as the physics.
AP Eng lang is one of the easier ap classes/tests…so go for it!
Out of curiosity what is the science progression at your high school because most have you take bio as a freshman or sophomore…at least in my area.
If you enjoy taking spanish take it, junior year is a lot of work and if you hate your classes it will be even worse!
