Hey guys. So, pretty much my guidance counselor is a VERY nice lady, but to be quiet honest, she really isn't very helpful and clearly does not know that much. When it comes to classes, she lets you pick whatever ones you want, but really has no input. Anyways, I need help deciding on what to take and which you guys think will LOOK the best for college. I'm in a tricky situation. SO here is my current schedule, and my classes that I can take. (GOING INTO JUNIOR YEAR)

English: AP Lang
History:AP US History
Math: (Normal Math) Trig/algebra 2 or something.
Science: Here's the tricky situation. I can either do chemistry and not honors chem because I didn't get into it, or AP enviromental. But since I'm in New York State that means I HAVE to take physics senior year because you need 3 regent classes to graduate (I have 2 currently). Should I just take normal chem, then an AP science class senior year?
Electives: AP Psychology and astronomy.
Spanish: Spanish 3 (normal - not honors.)

How does this schedule look for next year? I'm really stumped on what to do about science.

I’m sorry that I’m not of any help, but I have to say that when I saw this thread on the forum, my pointer was covering the “CL” in classes. You can tell what I thought. haha

But I would say take Chemistry, because that is an important subject, and you can self-study for the AP Enviromental Science test. Most people say that APES is one of the easier self-studies.

I am going to be a junior too. I took honors chemistry last year and it was surprisingly easy and I liked it better then Biology. I would take regular chemistry. Also, I would still take physics senior year. It doesn’t have to be honors. At my school we are required to have four years of science and we have to take biology, chemistry, and physics.

I suggest trying to do math in the summer. Algebra 2 is not at all good for college unless you’re amazing at Liberal Arts and are sure you’re going into that. I’m pretty sure you can’t even take AP Physics if you aren’t taking Calculus next year…

OOOH nice, you do astronomy. What do you learn there?

I think you should choose the classes that you’re more interested in. I’m not too familiar with the requirements of your state so I don’t really know how to advise you.

You might want to post this in the AP forum

Don’t do math in the summer (your brain needs time to mature), but try and get into honors. Like everyone else is saying, take normal chem because it is a great primer for the scientific thinking that you’ll need in physics. If you’d like to be ambitious, go ahead and self study ES.
