Junior Year Screw Up

Hey guys, I am planning on applying to Brown early next year for the dual degree program with RISD. However, I just realized that getting a C this semester in Pre-calc is highly likely.

If it helps, this would be my first C, and I am taking 5 AP courses this year as well (With As in all of them). I have been studying a lot for this class (more than the studying time for the 5 AP courses combined), yet I still end up getting Cs on the quizzes and tests. I’ll continue trying to improve it, but with SAT prep and EC’s, it will be very tough.

So, if I do get a C, is my application at a severe disadvantage?

“Is my application at a severe disadvantage” : While probably not “severe,” it is a pretty big disadvantage; I’d expect that the vast majority of admitted students didn’t get any Cs in high school. However, I’ve seen numerous threads like this posted in the forums at CC for many top schools, and I was surprised at how many students were admitted, even with one or two Cs.

It clearly won’t kill your application, and you should definitely apply next year if Brown/RISD is your top choice. Just be aware that the rest of your application and grades will have to compensate. You are doing the right thing by trying to improve, and I wish you the best of luck!
