Juniors rank your five top colleges

You might want to rethink that, or was it sarcasm?

It was sarcastic.

As of right now…

1.) MIT
2.) Harvard
3.) Cornell
4.) Columbia
5.) Carnegie Mellon

I dont think I have a shot at getting into my first two choices but there’s always hope.
Some other schools I’m interested in are: RIT, East London University,Duke, UPenn, Syracuse University, Boston U

UC Berkeley - Every time I visit this campus I fall back in love with it again. Just one of those things that hits you.

Stanford - A pretty big reach for me, but if I get accepted to here and UCB that would be one of the hardest decisions to make in my life.

UCLA - I want to stay on the west coast, and I like UCLA when I toured it. Not a huge SoCal fan but it seems like a great school.

UC Irvine - If it hasn’t been made clear by now I want to stay in-state and preferably a public school lol.

Harvard - why not?

Brown - dream school, no gen eds; when i picture it, i think super nice people who don’t care what people think about them

Yale - residential colleges, very few requirements, beautiful campus

UVA - have always wanted to go there, i’m in-state so tuition is awesome, great education and school spirit, Charlottesville is beautiful

Duke - academics + sports = amazing, great weather, close to UNC for social events

WUSTL - great up-to-date buildings, technology, pre-med

McGill’s selectivity would fall between UCLA and Berkeley.

Upenn

Brown

Cornell

Duke

MIT

No HYPS for me

My entire list:

UChicago–I love their quirkiness and just the philosophy the school has. I heard part of a graduation speech where the speaker was like, “Others will try to convince you that the outside, everyday is the ‘real world’–but this, the university, this is the real world.” I’m a very theoretically-mind person, and everything I read about them falls in line with that. Only school I won’t get a chance to visit.

Emory–my aunt went to school here, and I loved the viewbooks and video tour they sent me. More importantly, when I was looking at their policies and the way they run programs, not only are they the most likely to accept the college credit I’ve earned, but their approach to running the school seems very logical and relaxed. I’m excited I’ll have a chance to visit this summer.

Duke–Mom went here for grad school. It’s a really great school, though I’m not sure if I have any chance. I like the focus on academics, but I’m kind of worried about the focus on sports, and their reputation as rich-filled . . . and the location isn’t so great. =/

UNC–most direct descendant of one of the key first people for the school. I’ve been very impressed by the professors and the school in general . . . although not so much the lower-level admissions staff.

NCSU–Great school, a lot of friends go here and I’ve gotten a chance to visit several times . . . pretty laid back . . . not really anywhere else to apply in the State.

What?

Stanford - John McCarthy and Donald Knuth. Need I say anything else?

CalTech - The honor code, core curriculum, and emphasis on research appeal to me. Yes, I think having tons of Physics shoved down your throat sounds fun.

MIT - The retirement of 6.001 is disappointing, of course, and the weather isn’t as nice as the previous two, but so many of my favourite papers, concepts, and languages come from here.

4/5. Princeton/Harvard - They are both absolutely fantastic in Physics, and when reading the output of their CS departments I was very impressed. Still, I’m not sure that I appreciate the Ivy stigma.
