Juries/Cuts?

One of the other changes that has recently occurred is the use of the school's email system and SAKAI website to communicate important information to students. The new rules on casting restriction is an example. Another is with auditions. In the past, audition lists and call back schedules were posted by the SOTA office. Sides and other info for call backs were left in boxes on the floor for students to pick up. With the recent auditions, all of this and more was posted on the SAKAI site - call back schedules, character descriptions, sides for the different roles, instructions for the audition process, guidance on preparing resumes etc. All of the students I have spoken to feel this is a tremendous improvement.

In addition, for the first time dance juries are being held for MT students. In the past, MT students did a dance presentation in class, often in a small group project, often as choreography with a song from a show, as a final exam. Now there will be formal dance juries similar to what happens with the voice juries. This also is being communicated through the SAKAI site. I think this is a good change and will serve to further enhance the professionalism of the MT dance program (not that it was lacking before, just that this will raise it a couple of notches, which is a good thing).

Based on my five semesters at uarts so far, i have found that they are much more prompt about putting the cast lists up after the fall semester than they are for the spring semester. the reason for that is that the first show of the spring semester usually involves the students having to come back a little earlier from winter break for rehearsals so they need to let people know asap about travel plans....and also just plans in general (for instance, i am planning on visiting my friend at cornell for the weekend next semester, but we are waiting to see what our schedules are till we decide which weekend). fall of my freshman year and sophomore year the cast lists were up the evening grades were due, whereas in the spring semesters, they were up about 5 days after grades were in. i'm glad everyone here seems to have had a good fall semester. i can't believe how fast this one went by. they just get faster!! beware! :-)
