I realize this may not be the right place to ask this, so excuse me if it is (new member). I am going to be a Junior this year.

1) I have been doing Taekwondo for roughly 7 years and currently hold a 2nd degree black belt. How would that appeal to an admissions officer?

2)I started an internship halfway through my Sophomore year (It pertains to computer engineering HTML CSS JavaScript J Query) and plan on going through with it till the end of senior year (perhaps further until college beings).

3)I have roughly 100 hours of community service

4)My Arabic speaking is relatively fluent, English (obviously), and a bit of Spanish (I stopped with Spanish 5-6 this year)

How strong are those EC's and how much will they help me with a University like Berkeley's computer engineering, or other UC? Again, I apologize in advance if I posted this in the wrong section. Many thanks!

In my opinion, the service and the taekwando are pretty typical. They won’t make you stand out, but they do show you’ve done more than academics the last few years. I think the Arabic is more interesting to colleges. But of course, grades and scores are the main thing.

What do you think about the internship?

I think doing Taekwondo for 7 years shows that you are committed and will help somewhat on your resume. Internship is also good because of work experience. Community service is pretty normal/a little low. Arabic speaking is very unique, but I don’t know where that would be applicable in a computer engineering college.

Thanks for replies guys! I really appreciate it! Are there any more? O.o

The internship is great, not just for college admissions, but for work experience. Keep at it!

The internship is probably your best asset. Your taekwondo also isn’t bad (any awards/ recognition)? And you probably want to take some AP tests/ SAT subject tests for your Arabic if you want colleges to be interested.

Take what I say with a grain of salt though, I am only 16 and a rising senior.

By the way, could you chance me back? I would really appreciate it! ^_^

Wow Arabic, that’s cool.
