Just an update!

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Everything is going fine with my studies, was given my next song from "24" last week. My professor let me choose between 'Alma del core' and 'O del mio dolce ardor'. I chose the latter, with the understanding that we'll work on the other next semester. He'd like for me to have at least four songs from that book under my belt and down before I audition and transfer to UNR. Of course, I'm looking forward to learning other pieces (I really, really have my eye on "Songs My Mother Taught Me" in the original Czech and would love to learn it as well as "Will-o-the-Wisp" which I heard on an album of rare recordings of Marian Anderson. Trying to find the sheets for the latter is proving to be a trial...) but, you have to learn to walk before you can run and all of that.

My college's production of 'The King and I' went well. I played one of the wives, and am having people who were apparently at one or more of the performances coming up to me when I'm out and about in town and telling me how much they enjoyed my performance and how I 'stole the show'. I'm not sure if they were simply being facetious, but I must admit that the compliments have made me feel very good.

My professor has pretty much said "You will audition for 'Sound of Music' next semester" since "You need the experience". I agree and I look forward to auditioning and hopefully being cast. He believes that 'Sister Margaretta' would be a perfect role for me, so that's what I'm going for.

I'll keep everyone updated.

I’m sorry, but I don’t recall: where are you going to school now and what school is UNR?

Careful when you’re thinking about singing anything that Marion Anderson sang- she was a contralto, so you’d really have to transpose the key to fit with your voice. Another thing you may want to add in are language courses. Any good voice program will require them, so the more you know, the better off you are.

I am a Lyric Contralto according to my professor. I’ve always been told previously that I was a Mezzo by others, so I believed it and said so. He says that I’d not have much trouble singing some Mezzo roles, but that my ‘home’ is 'where things are warm and melodious". I think that I understand what he means by that, but I could be wrong.

He says that my range is D3-B5.

I’m starting my second year of Spanish study at the Upper Division level next semester, I already am fluent in German (have been since childhood) with Italian as my next language to take courses in.

I’m currently at a community college and am aiming to transfer to the University of Nevada, Reno as a Applied Voice major in Spring 2011.

Also, am applying for Smith’s Ada Comstock Scholars Program as a Jewish Studies major, Music minor for Fall 2010 entrance. If I am accepted to Smith, the Vocal Performance major transfer goal will be moot.

Of course, if I’m actually accepted there…I will be in total and utter shock! :)

Good luck to you.
