It seems that I am one out of a million other applicants that has been deferred from Chicago EA. I was pretty disheartened by the news.. It seems like all my friends are getting their acceptances from amazing schools; one of my good friends got into Columbia, 5 kids got into Penn, 3 to Cornell, a couple to Brown, and a couple to Duke. And now, UChicago accepted two of my classmates EA.

I really want to stay positive and convince myself that I have a chance for UC, but I understand that the acceptance rate for deferrees is dysmal (about 10%).

Can someone who got deferred then accepted give me some advice/solace about my predicament?

I was deferred too. And by Northwestern. But although the acceptance rate is relatively low, you’re not competing against the 2390 SAT guys who were king of the world freshman and sophomore year anymore…

You’re against people who are in similar situations with similar GPAs and test scores. So just do your best to make yourself stand out by improving your own personal application. Take the SAT again in January and improve your GPA by nailing this semester.

You’ll be fine. Don’t worry! If you don’t get in, it probably wasn’t a good fit for you and you might not have enjoyed your time there as much as you think you would! :)

thanks Christina. I just really hope it all pans out in the end.
