My son hopes to transfer to UM in the fall of 2013. He is in-state and has been studying at a local community college for two years. I think he looks like a strong candidate but what do I know? I'm his mom.

Stats:

GPA: 3.9
Credits: Between 70-80
Has As in Calculus 1, 3 and in Physics, Chemistry, Linear Algebra, and Programming C+++

The only B he earned was in Calc 2.

He doesn't have ACT/SAT scores because he enrolled at comm. college at 14 and then was advised not to take the tests. His high school GPA was 4.0 but he was homeschooled, so I don't know how that works.

He's been very active in community service groups and has had some great service and educational travels but he's not captain of the lacrosse team or anything.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Thank you, Vladenschlutte! I appreciate your confidence!

Yep, I agree with Vladenschlutte. A 3.9 in an instate CC will look excellent to Michigan, he is almost certain to get in. Be aware though, even though he will be coming in with up to 80 credits, Michigan will still expect him to take a minimum of 60 credits here in the Ann Arbor campus for him to get his degree. So he will probably have to stay here an extra semester.

With regards to the ACT, your son will not be required to take it. Michigan is only interested in the test if he took it while in high school.

Thanks for the encouragement, KronOmega! He’s okay with it taking an extra semester to graduate from U of M. We’re in no hurry… he just turned 18.

I’ll keep you posted.
