Just curious, how oftern do you guys drink coffee?
three time a day
twice a day
once everyday
once every couple days
once a week
twice a week
once a month
once per semester or not at all?

And do you guys think drinking coffee is helpful to your studies or not?
Does drinking coffee bring some bad effect also?

How much should we drink coffee as the best in the college?

I drink a small cup of coffee every morning. I don’t really think it affects me in any way, I just drink it too feel warm : ) Sometimes I drink tea instead.

When I want the taste of coffee, I go for decaf. Usually happens once every 1-2 weeks. Otherwise I drink full-caffeine if I need the boost, usually once a month.

I’ll drink it if I really need to study (like this week) or if I go to Starbucks because otherwise I’ll feel cheap just going to study. I usually just get tea, but in rare occasions I’ll get coffee.

I won’t drink it regularly because coffee tastes GROSS.

i love dunkin’ donuts coffee, but unfortunately there are none in cali so i have my own Costco-sized bags that i make it with.

i also tend to drink coffeebean, but only when i go there to study. I try to avoid this, but sometimes i can’t really avoid it, especially when i go there like at 5a and am like the only person there.

Usually twice a day or so. I don’t spend my meal points on eating at the DC usually, so I’ll spend them on coffee. In the morning I’ll probably have a small latte with an extra shot of espresso, and before or after 2 pm lecture I’ll have a medium latte w/ extra shot (for a total of 6 shots).

I think it would be much better if I got several extra hours of sleep. The less I sleep the slower I get things done, and the less time I have to sleep, so I’m looking to break that cycle for next semester, so I don’t need so much caffeine.

I must say that this is much better than in high school when I’d probably drink 1/2 a gram or so worth of caffeine a day.

Never. If I’m craving the taste or something, which doesn’t happen often, I’ll go for decaf. I do drink tea though. Again, not for the caffeine but because I want something warm to drink.

Not really. Either you understand the concepts or you don’t. (That’s my opinion). If you don’t understand, go to office hours, review lecture notes, ask questions, form study groups, etc. I think caffeine only helps to a certain extent. There’s only so much caffeine your body can take before it says **** it and you crash. Don’t deprive yourself of sleep. At Cal (and in college in general probably), it’s expected that you study as you go along in the course, which is why most classes test up to last lecture or two before for midterms and such.

Sorry, I hope the above didn’t come out sounding harsh. But I learned that lesson the hard way last year (I came from a ****ty high school, so coming here was a change of pace.)

Well, according to the psychology of sleep class I’m taking this semester…

Regular consumption of coffee results in: reduced total sleep time, slow wave sleep, sleep quality, and reduced melatonin secretion accross the night. And according to one study there is no evidence that caffeine improved performance.

IF you really want to study effectively, I remember my prof saying that you should review until you feel tired and go to sleep.
