I was just curious as to why it takes so long for UMD to give out decisions for early notification. They said that we would get decisions mid-February which is anything but early. Why does every college notify EA applicants much earlier??

Unlike for other universities, the majority of applicants do EA for UMCP.

Yea, its somthing like 85% are accepted in EA for UMCP.

wow thats high haha... i hope i get into the business school :)

wow 85%?!
1778999 for real???

It's not true EA...they call it "priority admissions." It's where they get most of their students, and by applying earlier, you get the better chance for admissions, aid, scholarships, and housing. I really don't know why they do it, I think they should either due a real EA deadline or just make December 1st the deadline for everyone.

somebody, it sounds like you're enrolled there. How did you receive your acceptance? Email? Applicant status link? Snail mail? What did it say? Were you notified at the same time of acceptance into College Park Scholars or Honors? Scholarship? Anything else?

worrywart... on the website it says "check your app decision" and when it is ready you will be able to see it...

somebodynew... i submitted all my application materials on october 30... do you think thats early enough for me to have a good shot??

bearcat, i just clicked on "check your app" and it still says no decision available but for the first time when i click on "confirm your enrollment" it says to confirm for spring 2007. does EVERYONE have that screen now or does it mean i was deferred to spring admissions? VERY WORRIED.

it doesnt matter when you submitted your stuff by so long as it was before or on Dec 1

I cannot confirm what steve22 said but I know that priority is MUCH MUCH more popular than EA for other universities.

I can't remember if the decision was in the actual email or if the email took you to a website...I think it was the former.

Yeah, you find out right away if you were invited to scholars, honors, gemstones, honors humanities, etc.

Checked with my d.... letters have NOT gone out yet. Last year, it was on line about a day before the letters were mailed. Also, in the letter you are told if you are invited to scholars, etc. .........if you have any questions, call the admissions office. They are very helpful.

footnote: housing is very tight. Her friends that were offered spring admission are now being told they are not sure if they will have housing or not.
This is all pretty much stuff that everyone knows. You can also read the Diamondback on line if you want to get a "feel" of the place, or better yet, go visit! Everyone I know who goes there loves it, and so does she. So glad she picked it.

so that gives us better changes of getting in?
i really wish so.=)
thx.=P

Thanks for the inside scoop, marylandgirl. Will you post here again when the letters are mailed?

I don't have any inside scoop. All I know is what I read on the web site or in the Diamondback. Last year letters were mailed around Feb. 15th. I assume they will go out around the same time this year.

Yea im just going by what my guidance counsler told me, but hes an idiot, so it could be wrong.

i called maryland and they said admissions decisions would be available online on march 1, 2007

march 1?
why that late?
i thought it's supposed to be before february 15?=O
march 1 is really late...

oh btw some weeks ago my friend emailed maryland, and they said we'll hear from them in 6 weeks, and it was like about mid january-mid february...=/
