...does MIT notify our high schools when we are admitted? ...or do they let them know after we commit?

I doubt if they do either one.

IDK if they inform the school, but there's a space on the acceptance form where you can put a teacher's name, and they'll send that teacher (c/o the school) a nice letter saying that you thought they were very influential or whatever.

really? i should take a look at that. that's awesome!

I told everyone at my high school that I had accepted.. all except for the teacher I wrote down as influential (I figured he'd be contacted on my behalf and I wanted it to be a suprise.. plus it was one less person to hunt down and inform). But I mentioned it when I ran into him back home over Winter Break, and he had no idea! So although the letter sounds like a cool thing, the system isn't entirely reliable :-/

They almost surely won't send the letters until after all the decisions are in. (Why do it in bits and pieces when you can send them all out en masse over the summer?)

Haha mootmom, you are quite right, except:

For the curious, here is how the letter (used to) look like. [link]

EDIT: Hmm, the letter is dated on the 2nd of Oct... so perhaps, lauren's teacher did end up getting the letter? :-)

(PinnedBot -- mea culpa. I'll get all these terms and timelines straight someday. ;) Thanks, and thanks for the preview of the possible letter.)
