Just dropped my daughter off to CWRU Freshman Orientation weekend

Just wondering what other parents thoughts/opinions were? I really felt my daughter was WAY over-scheduled as soon as we set foot on campus. She had no time to unpack, or eat with me, pick up forgotten/unexpected items, etc. She ended up ditching with her RA and group to get some time to sit and eat a meal with me and discuss things that she needed or needed to be done. It was an overwhelming weekend. She is excited and I know this week will be busy but I felt that Sunday and Monday were so overpacked with things that could have been done after the parents left campus.

Anyone else have any thoughts? This is my first and only child I am sending off to college, so I guess I am an amateur and was clueless.

My #3 son graduated from Case last June . We picked what events we or my son wanted to attend, but we stayed at a hotel nearby for a couple of days in case he needed something . We were very pleased with Case ,from beginning till graduation ,which was great BTW .

Glad to hear your son and you are happy with Case Fauxmaven. I am really excited for my daughter and she is excited about her classes, sports and clubs she is planning to be involved with.

The first three days of the Freshmen orientation week seemed like they were required things for the kids with their RA’s. She basically started calling her to let her know she would not be attending the Monday evening and Tuesday Morning stuff so we could have meals and stop off at a store or two. I felt badly having her miss them but we would have never seen each other for all 3 days if we hadn’t done it that way. Either way, I am gone now and she can focus on the activities for the rest of the week before classes. It just was a bit overwhelming at first thinking we had no choice in the matter.

We are however, excited about her time at CWRU!

Hi Case Parents,

I just attended a CWRU information session today with my son who goes to school in 2013. I am hoping some of you post your kids 1st month experience - good and bad. Would like to hear from you.

Hi Jersey Shore-

Our student’s classes are just starting this morning, so it is a little early…but move in was well organized and pretty painless although it was a bit challenging to get time away from orientation activities as Blue Poodle mentioned. We just made a lunch “optional” and made Target runs without the D. She has been having so much fun during Orientation week that we have hardly heard from her. She is loving Case so far. I have been very impressed with the amount of personal attention she has received by reaching out to the staff.

My son got to campus early since he is an athlete. So far he has enjoyed his time on campus. He only went to the required orientation events because he had practice. However, he did enjoy the free baseball tickets and managed to get there on RTA without any problems. Judging by his FB page he seems to be making lots of new friends.

He called me after his first few classes this morning and he seemed happy and confident. I am sure that he will let us know if he has any problems. He seems to know what to do and where to go for whatever he needs.

I am actually a high school senior I would love to hear from students who are attending Case this year! Case has been my number 1 school since middle school I think lol  hearing others’ opinions about case would be really helpful to me. Also hearing from students who’ve been accepted to the ppsp medicine program too. Thanks

My son is also a Freshman this year. We didn’t get a lot of time with him during the parent orientation days but we did manage to have lunch with him. I was very impressed with how the move in went and I thought everything was really well organized.

He seems to be adjusting very well. Probably better then I am. I have an older daughter who stayed in state to go to college so this is a bit different for me having him so far away. With the exception of a frantic round of texts because he couldn’t seem to get his printer to work, everything has been great. He is enjoying Rush week activities and has made a lot of friends already. He is enjoying his classes and is managing his time well. Of course we are only one week into classes, so hopefully he will be able to continue to balance his time.

Overall, so far, it has been an extremely positive experience.

When my son started Case in 2008,there were only 17 students from NJ ! Have the numbers increased?

Hi Parents,

Thanks for your posts. Please keep them coming. It is very valuable to hear your son or daughter’s experiences as they settle in.

My son wants to talk to a current sophmore or junior in EE to get their view on their first year at case. He has emailed admissions and the student coordinator in EE but has not received any responses from either. Did any of your kids talk to current students? How did you go about setting that up?

Thanks

As a current sophomore, I can tell all parents that orientation and move-in is really hard for both the student and parents! There’s not much time for everyone to fit in everything, but the best part is getting past it! Parents weekend is usually when Case tries to schedule fun activities for families to do together in a more relaxed setting… I remember moving in my first year and how unprepared I was! Please let me know if you have any other questions- I am a student ambassador on campus and would be happy to answer them!

jr - We enjoyed our 2010 Case tour. Our big group had a trio of helpful, excitied tourguides. It was the best arrangement of our many campus tours.
