@HydeSnark I’m pretty sure I already know the answer to this, but is it worth trying to request a certain house in Burton-Judson? Are there any consensus good or bad ones? My guess is that they are all good and unique in their own way, and that they won’t care about any requests for houses, but I just wanted to make sure.
@jarrett211 Don’t bother
- They’re going to ignore it. When housing decisions came out last year there was some people complaining about requesting one house because they prospied there and getting a different one. No one who requested got what they wanted.
- You know nothing about what the houses are actually like from what information is public. The house websites are pretty old and not updated frequently and are pretty sanitized to keep housing happy, so they left a lot of stuff out to begin with.
- The houses change so much from year to year it isn’t worth it. Linn-Mathews went from being the party house to barely partying at all. Dodd-Mead suddenly became super international. Will any of this continue to next year? Who knows?
@HydeSnark Sorry to bump this thread, but I have another question. I’m still going with Burton-Judson as my first choice, but what would be a good second and third choice behind if I’m looking for the closest thing to the Burton-Judson experience? I was thinking I-House might be a good second choice because I hear it’s quite tight-knit and it would give me a single for sure, but is the location too much to handle, or would you recommend Snell-Hitchcock? What about North or South? Of those four, what would you pick as a second and third choice?
@jarrett211 I stayed in snitchcock on my overnight and it was a ton of fun. They are not anti-social at all. I think, from what I’ve read, that it offers a very BJ-like experience.
@HydeSnark I too have a question. I put down having a roommate as my top priority. How hard is it to get a double at BJ? Also, I’d take a single at BJ over a double at my 3rd choice. Will they skip over BJ and give me a double at my 3rd choice if there are no doubles left at BJ, and only singles?
@tutututututuru They always will prioritize the dorm you put over getting a single, double, etc. If you put Burton-Judson as your first choice with your top priority being a double, they will give you a single at Burton-Judson before moving on to your second choice dorm.
@tutututututuru Just write that you would rather have your first choice dorm over having a roommate in additional information.
I think it’s that hard to get a double in BJ.
@HydeSnark, if committing now, do you think could still get room at Max P? Or North or South? DD is not someone who would do well walking several blocks from I House to Bartlett etc to eat her breakfast/meals. She would probably end up snacking alot instead, which may turn the freshman 15 into a freshman 30 :O.
@ihs76 I know I wasn’t the one you asked about, but I’ve been in the Admitted Students Facebook group since EA decisions were released, and based on everything I’ve seen, North is going really really fast. I don’t think it’s going to be available for someone committing now. Max P could have some spots left (it’s pretty big), but I’m not sure. South should have a few spots left. Also, I’m guessing you were just using I-House as an example, but I’m pretty sure that I-House students eat at Cathey Dining Hall, not Bartlett, and Cathey is closer and better from what I’ve heard. Anyways, you might as well list your top 3 choices regardless because even if there aren’t any spots left at those places, it’s not worth picking dorms you don’t want, and I can guarantee that Snell-Hitchcock will be out of spots by this point, and almost certainly Burton-Judson as well.
@jarrett211, Cathey would be even worse (despite the better food). Walking across the Midway for every meal? Not gonna happen. And before anyone says Midway is not a big deal, I know the campus intimately well having spent 10 years on it :D. Her first choice is Max P so hope that’ll work out.
From what she says from the Facebook page, it sounds like number of kids still have not committed.
