I just noticed that the FAFSA that was submitted a month ago, has an error! For my daughter's section, I answered 'yes' that she was eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ, but she wasn't....she had a small capital gain. I did show the correct $ in AGI section and income earned sections. Should I go into the fafsa account and correct this (answer 'no')? Should I contact the schools? Does it even make a difference in her eligibility?! Will she be seen as a 'late' filer if I make the adjustment now, after all of the deadlines have passed? Any help would be appreciated!

Actually, the answer to that question really doesn’t matter for a dependent student. It is used to determine eligibility for formulas that ignore assets, and in the case of a dependent student only the parent’s answer to that question is actually considered. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Phew! Thanks so much!
