Just got Acceptance Email into NYU Steinhardt-Grad school

Thank You MusicMovesMe! Feeling much better! I’ll keep you posted as things progress. Good Luck!

Hey MusicMovesMe, I applied for regular Graduate admission, submitted my from on Jan 30th, but submitted transcript, portfolio and recommendations a week later.

I got my acceptance to the graduate program for music technology on Wednesday… It was incredibly relieving considering I only applied to two grad schools and my gpa was pretty low (3.25  this might be relieving to some of you who have better gpas though!) I really didn’t think I was getting in (I did try my hardest to write the best essay I could and I sent them a solid portfolio of music that I composed and produced). I’m down in Florida but I don’t know if location really has anything to do with how they send them out. I didn’t get an email or anything first. Just the letter/package in the mail. I really wish everyone the best of luck and I hope to see some of you there in the fall. I’ve never even been to nyc so this is really a dream come true for me. Best wishes all!

Hey LXA, Glad to hear you got in. Looks like we might be in the same program this fall! How is your musical background? I got a BA in Computer Science and a Music Minor, and i’ve mostly been writing/producing music on my own. Their placement exam looks kinda tough though, and i’m patiently awaiting my financial package praying that they give me some aid, besides loans. I’m just kinda been anxious about what awaits me after I graduate, since music industry is not the hottest these days… just thought i’d vent a bit

Awesome! I’m really excited to get started there. I feel very fortunate to get in and I’m ready to make the most of it. My musical background is pretty good thanks to Florida States amazing school of music. But part of the reason my gpa was rather low is because I had virtually no music training prior to coming up to FSU save for about 6 months of guitar lessons that I took before I had a late audition… and I was very fortunate to be accepted here as well but it was definitely tough for me to be amongst so many other students who had grown up reading music and playing instruments all their lives. I was accepted during my senior year here into the commercial music program which basically entails my music major with a business minor and access to the studio and all that. I should have known that there was a placement test but thanks for giving me the heads up… where did you find info on that?.. I’d like to look over what I need to be reviewing. I’m in the same boat as far as financial aid… I really hope they give me something because NYC is going to be expensive enough as it is. I also sent my resume to the music technology department so that I might be able to get a job as a studio monitor or technician. Have you thought about the housing situation?.. I’m still trying to figure out what is going to be the best way to room in the city for an affordable price as a student.

I found the info on the placement exam actually so don’t worry about that

I live in New York, so housing is not an issue for me. Still didn’t get my financial package… I’m working in a music distribution company, in the IT dept and nothing really to do with music tech, and hoping i can work full time while attending full time. Still didn’t get my financial package…

MusicMovesMe…have you heard?
Has anyone one heard anything yet from NYU Steinhardt Music Business Graduate Program?

Nope, not a thing. I’m still not stressing out yet since she said 2 weeks and its only been one. As far as I know, the only people that have heard from MUBG have been early decision applicants. I’ll start to panic when it gets closer to the 4/15. I’m operating under the assumption that no news is good news…

Thanks MusicMovesMe! That’s what I like…calm…cool…collective. I’ll be sure to let you know as soon as I hear something too.

djimd2

MusicMoves Me…Got my Rejection today :o( Kind of surprised. Undergraduate Music Industry GPA 3.8. Overall GPA 3.4. Extracurricular Activity was lacking.Maybe next year. Wish you the best of luck!

djimd2

djimd2, wow, truly sorry to hear that. You’re stats are way better than mine. I guess I’ll be expecting a rejection letter some time soon. Did it come in the mail or email? I’m going to try and prepare myself now.

My son was accepted into the MA program in Media, Culture and Communications. He heard last week via email, but nothing in the mail yet. It appears that the MA students are not funded by the department. We’ll see what kind of financial aid is offered to meet the $50,000 per year cost.

MusicMovesMe…Thanks for your good wishes. I wouldn’t be pessimistic if I were you. I’m a Media Arts & Design Major (Print Journalism) 3.4 gpa. Music Industry Minor 3.8 gpa. I am graduating in May from James Madison University in Virginia with a B.S… As I said before, my extracurricular experience is weak. (I knew that going in.). Seems to me that with the economy in the shape it’s in there must be s significant number of applicants to Masters programs. In addition I would think Masters programs like their applicants to have some experience outside of school after graduation. I’m sure they prefer people who play musical instruments or sing, which I do not.
Please give me some feedback about your backround and let me know what happens with you. Good Luck

Any more news about acceptances/rejections from the Steinhardt Music Business graduate program? I might go crazy if I don’t hear anything soon!

djimd2, my background: graduated in '07 with a BA in Communications. Major gpa 3.5, overall 2.94 (don’t judge me, lol, I had a rough first couple years). I was pretty active in school, but didn’t address that in my application. I don’t play any instruments but I used to sing (again, I didn’t address that anywhere). Since graduating I’ve worked at a theatre (plays) and then I moved to a trade association. Nothing too similar to anything in the music industry. Umm, I’m in MD now so I expected to get the denial letter around the same time as you. Haven’t heard anything yet and I haven’t heard of any further denials or acceptances since you received notice. I plan to call Wednesday if I don’t hear anything tomorrow.

Bestmixtape, when did you submit all of your application materials? And good luck!

Well I didn’t apply early decision, but I had everything in by January 17. If you call on Wednesday it would be great if you could post what they say! Although hopefully we all will know by then. And good luck to you, too!

MusicMoves Me, Do you know what the size of the Class is? Both Full Time and Part Time? Thanks for the info. Keep me posted. Best of Luck. Hard to believe you guys haven’t heard yet.

I have no idea. I may have read somewhere that each incoming class is 30 or 32 people, but I don’t think I read that on any NYU website or materials. I decided I’ll call today. If I’m not too heartbroken at the news I’ll ask whomever I speak with.

I didn’t get anything today either. :frowning: MusicMovesMe - if they let you know their decision over the phone, please post, because then I might do the same!
