After spending hours reading the posts on this forum, I suggested to my son that he apply early to one of his safety schools. The acceptance letter for Carthage College came in the mail today!!!!!!!

This is a huge relief because his ACT score was 22 and his GPA is only 2.8. Now he can take a breather and focus on boosting his ACT scores for the fall testing. To all of you who assured me that there was a college for everyone....I must say thank you for your encouragement and advice.

I don't think we had a "hook". But maybe not requesting any financial aid was the deciding factor. The only things he wrote down as interests were intramurals, club hockey and expressing interest in joining the College Republican Club - this might have given him some sort of minority status :)

Thanks again and when the kitchen clock says it is appropriate, I shall open a bottle of wine!

Congratulations Kajon!!! Isn’t that feeling the best! I think you are the first reported acceptance of the season on CC! Here is a virtual glass of champagne to toast you, your son and his success{{clink}}

Not the first, I think there was a report on the 2010 parents’ thread about an Alabama acceptance. Congrats to everyone. I am still trying to convince D to apply to a rolling Super-Safety.

Congrats Kajon! My DD is the one from the other thread who already got her Alabama acceptance…isn’t it great to see them so excited? I just gave our GC kudos on her staff since they sent out DDs transcripts the day after she requested them.

That’s not necessary, Dupes. Kajon and her son evaluated their situation and chose to apply to a college that met their needs AND he was accepted. That’s something to celebrate!

There’s a lot of kids here on CC in April who didn’t do their homework and end up being crushed when they don’t get in HYP. It’s nice to celebrate someone who did do their homework.

Congrats Kajon. S2 had similiar stats to your S. He applied to his school in early Oct (07) and had his acceptance letter four weeks later. He was the first of any of his friends to get an acceptance which made him feel great. Many of his friends had way higher stats but hadn’t applied anywhere yet. What a feeling. It’s wonderful to see the relief and joy on their faces isn’t it?
