Hey floridadad55!

Yeah I love UF, don’t get me wrong… It’ll be a difficult decision for me to choose between honors programs if I get accepted to both… My transcripts that were sent stated I had a 2050 superscored SAT, but my new score (and I’ll be pressing submit on my UF app in the next few days) is 2110. I have a 31 ACT, and 3.9 UW/5.0 W GPA, ranked 3/650+.

I know someone who rejected HARVARD to go to UCF. She preferred the opportunities that downtown Orlando offered and I’ll bet UCF in general. It does seem outrageous… at first… but I too am warming up to UCF.

UCF’s scholarship offers are really attractive. If UCF offers me Provost which is $20,000 over the course of 4 years and guaranteed admission to Honors, I’ll probably be guaranteed to go UCF. Now I’m not sure about my chances as they only accept about 80 kids, or top 10% of the incoming class and I’m no national merit.

The difference b/w UF reg and UF honors is very little according to what I have heard. UF honors is only 2 years. At UCF, the honors program is 4 years and you’re supposedly treated like “royalty.” I know of UF Honors kids who are still treated like a number… However, UF does have well-established programs and a great reputation… But on the other hand, there is a lot of competition for opportunities. UCF has numerous partnerships with big name as well as local businesses. When you’re applying for a job, doesn’t experience trump prestige?

I personally did not have the great vibe I got from UF when I visited UCF. Which is hilarious because I’m very, very familiar with the UCF area. However, UCF isn’t a bad choice. They are quite different in I don’t know the word… atmosphere? UF is more traditional college town while UCF is urban…

Also it is just undergrad… Everyone is needing their bachelor’s so unless you are in very competitive fields where undergrad education prestige does matter… the difference between both is minimal. I personally am looking at Engineering and Accounting. Very likely computer engineering because UCF is renowned for it’s computer/tech programs. After all, UCF was originally FL Technological University, supposed to prepare workers for the big technical companies like NASA, etc. There have been UCF grads who go on to Ivies, Harvard for example even for medicine. As long as you make the best of it… and if undergrad prestige doesn’t matter, where you get your bachelor’s also doesn’t really matter.
