Just got called to do an interview for Duke.

So if I haven't been called about an interview and my application was submitted well before the interview deadline, does that mean that there aren't any interviewers if my area? Or is it possible that I still may get one?

ohh maybe this means i might get an interview after all....i'll just have to hope and see i guess

same question as annalovesbananas....and i live near san francisco so there should be alumni near me.

i was looking at the duke website and they have a form to fill out if i haven't been contacted for an interview yet...do you think i should fill that out and send it in? i don't want to be annoying and all if they're going to interview me anyway and just haven't called yet.

I filled out the form. I figured that it can't hurt since I applied a month ago. I didn't even know there was a form! Thanks lydia423, I was clueless about the interview request.

I actually sort of became friends with my interviewer. Like we were joking and stuff; it went great. Duke had sent her a list of suggested questions that she could use and she even handed it over to me, so we could laugh about how bad some were. I forget the really bad ones, but the most intersting/ out-of-the-box one i "chose to answer" (because she had run out of ones that she thought weren't bogus) was "What would you do if you a free day to do anything?"

I said some stuff about friends. She sympathized. Just, don't be nervous. Try to be really nice and so on. people like the excuse they're given to talk to a current highschool student.

I had a very nice interviewer... generally if you like the interviewer they like you:) And try not to dress too fancy... good luck to all of you!

What would the proper attire look like?

I would say Dockers/collared polo shirt or similar style for guys and nice slacks/top or casual dress for the girls. No need to wear a suit or church clothes. Many wear jeans with a nice top--that's okay by menas long as they are neat and fit properly. Just to be safe I'd say opt for something other than blue jeans.

Hey all - I had my interview yesterday at a Starbucks...

It was scheduled for 1 PM, I showed up at ~12:40, and he arrived at 1:04 PM :)
I looked up my interviewer online - he was an Econ. major and did his Law degree at UCLA after he graduated from Duke (class of 2002) - he's 27.

It was really funny initially; first, Duke had me down for Trinity College, even though I wanted BME @ Pratt, so they assigned this guy to me (he went to Trinity, obviously) - I faxed in the correction form, but they didn't change my person. Weird.

I wore pretty standard interview attire - slacks and a nice dress shirt, but with the sleeves rolled up. Just think "business casual".

It was a little awkward at first, cause he was like, "Oh. I don't really know how much I can help you with Engineering, cause I majored in Econ...", but Econ is my second choice/possible future double major, so it was still fine.

I brought along a resume, and he used that as kind of a springboard - he was pretty chill about it all! REALLY, don't stress out :)
He didn't ask me any questions really, apart from "So, why do you want to go to Duke?", or "Tell me what you want me to know about you".

He told me that he was really impressed with me, and he told me a ton of stories about friends/roommates he had had, and the wild stuff they got up to... About an hour-long interview total.

I asked a couple of questions about the Focus programs, but they first started them when he got there, so he wasn't really sure how they are now. I also asked what eventually drew him to Duke at the end of his selection process, and he basically told me that after visiting a school, that school became his #1, and he happened to visit Duke last :)

He also told me about interviewees he had had the year before (first he was like, "Ummm, I'm not really supposed to tell you this..."), and how one of them was a pompous a$$hole who "jerked him around"

Finally, he told me that he asked everyone he interviewed whether they had anything they wanted him to know, that was unique/special/different - and he told me some of the odd answers he had gotten before - I had an awesome response prepared for this type of question, so I felt really relieved.

All in all, one of my favorite interviews! The guy was awesome, and he really made me appreciate Duke and see it in a new light.

P.S: My interviewer looked EXACTLY like Matthew McConaughey, just with slightly darker hair. The whole time, I was contemplating whether I should mention it to him - but decided to keep it to myself ;) It was slightly disconcerting; 'cause I felt like I was being interviewed by a celebrity lol.

P.P.S: Why are my posts so darn long? Gosh...

If you get asked a difficult question, it's totally fine to be like "Oh gosh, that's a tough one... Hmm let me think for a second"... just so that you don't say the first thing that comes into your head and sound like a total moron. Or with the "problem facing our generation" one you can always be like "ah well it's difficult to say, but in my opinion...". Basically you can stall a little bit and they won't hold it against you!

I just had my interview today! My interviewer was really nice and her house was huge!! I brought a copy of my activity list and she basically went down the list, asking me to explain each extracurricular/award/etc. Then she made up some questions like "If you could change anything about your school, what would you change and why?", "How do you connect with your teachers?", "What would you contribute to a group?". Then she told me about why she picked Duke and what she was involved in and what she liked. Definitely was the most organized one I've had so far!

Duke = big house? Yum.

For some strange reason, I've always had the idea that in these interviews, you're supposed to ask the questions xD I guess I got it all wrong. Yikes.

Well you do ask questions about the school for the interviewer to answer. I forgot to mention that part- oops! Come prepared to your interview with some questions so you don't have to think them up on the spot.

Haha I thought my interviewer had to live in a pretty nice house if she asked me to meet there instead of Starbucks and I was right!

I just had my interview today!!!

DD has filled the request form for interview twice now and got nothing. I will ask her to call them soon to find out why.

We are in a fairly large city and should have a bunch of Duke people here.

Would it be bad if I filled out the interview request even if I submitted formA after Dec 10

I didn't request an interview, but got called for one anyway....does this mean anything lol (I'm going). It's set up for next Thursday.

I got an email from an alumni today who wants to interview me. I turned in my apps on Dec. 28th so I'm surprised I got that email. Yay, I'm going to get interviewed!

My D got asked about current events and found herself talking politics....
