Just got elected as National Honor Society President. I submitted my applications already.

I submitted my applications already. Is it worth updating them about it, and how should I go about doing so? I am applying to top schools through the Questbridge match program, if that makes a difference. Should I update these schools on my new position? What is the best way to do so?

agreeing with miniverse. At the least it will be put in your file, but it’s also possible that it will ‘remind’ the regional person about you.

@collegemom3717 & @miniverse Thank you for the tips! Sadly, I applied to schools such as Columbia, Princeton, etc. in which I have not met their regional officers. What would you suggest doing?

You don’t have to have met them! That’s the great thing about having a solid reason to update to your application: it introduces you to them as an individual. It makes them pause 3 seconds longer over your name.

Is NHS president enough to tip the balance of admission? of course not. I’m guessing it’s not even in the top 5 best things about your application, and also that rather a lot of Princeton and Columbia applicants have the same or similar.

But: it is one more time for them to think of you, one more way for you to show interest, one more example.

@collegemom3717 Definitely! It just adds to my application, and hopefully will have a benefit in an extremely competitive applicant pool. How would I contact the regional admissions officer? Where would their contact information be? How can I ensure that I am not just contacting a regular admissions officer?

Thanks!

I think you could find out through the website of those universities, but if not, you could always call undergraduate admissions and ask who the admissions officer is in the region you live in.

@birdballs What’s the difference between a regular admissions officer and the regional one?

Your GC will have info on the regional rep for each college.

@collegemom3717 Sounds great! There emails are online too. Do you think that I should introduce myself? How deep should I go into the introduction? What do you think I should include? Just that I am applying through the Questbridge scholarship, or include other information about me?

Edit yourself very tightly: Dear AdRep, Could you please add this new acheivement (insert) to my application? [optional ONE sentence about why this is a particularly big deal- such as first / only person with characteristic Y to get it or esp great b/c it demonstrates that…]. I am at x school, applying through Questbridge and really want to go to (name of uni). Thank you. (your name)

@collegemom3717 Thank you so much!

@Yomo710 I’m not exactly an expert, so I’m not sure if I’m right here, but from what I know, a regular admissions officer looks at applications regardless of where they come from. Regional admissions officers are responsible for apps from a particular region. From what I’ve heard (again, not sure if this is correct), regional admissions officers present apps from their assigned region to the admissions committee during the decision-making period: they’re the ones presenting your case, if you will. Regular admissions officers look over all applications regardless. Hope this helps.

@birdballs Thank you! You’ve certainly helped.
