Just got emailed for an interview.. cant make it!

A harvard alum emailed me asking if I can go into Manhattan (from Queens) on Monday night at 8. She said if not, then Thursday. Problem is that this is such short notice and I would only be able to take public transportation. This would take 2 hours both ways. What the heck do I do/say?!

Not to mention these are school nights -_-

I would figure out a way to do it because if you can’t figure that out, and two hours is too much effort … well, that may be sending a message that is not your intention.

This will eliminate an entire night of studying and homework, putting me way behind in class -_-

It’s unwise to turn down an alumni interview. Unless you have a specific conflict, you should try to make it work

dude, one night of non studying will not put you behind in class. i study very rarely and i’m still dominating. dude, it’s ONE night, you’ll be not doing homework or studying. i think your teachers or anyone else will understand. no biggie.

Well good for you >_>

But yeah I emailed her back asking if Thursday was better for her. I hope its not weird being interviewed in her apartment lol

I understand exactly and think others on this thread are being overly harsh. One CAN suffer a lot by skipping hw for one night.

Maybe you could politely ask if it’s possible to meet at a different time–like on a Friday–or somewhere that’s more splitting the difference in distance. It’s not necessarily the best idea to question your interviewer, but it beats skipping the interview at all. Just explain that you are very busy and it’s hard for you to do this on a school night and the interviewer should understand and be accommodating.

Interview reports aren’t due for quite a while. Perhaps you can both work to find a better time and location?

She is doing a volunteer service for Harvard but I’m sure she doesn’t want to unduly burden you either. Good luck
